Question about Brother MFC 8950DW
New machine printed sharp, crisp output, but over a short period of time, the printing became fain and blurry with no sharp edges or contrast. replacing the toner cartridge and drum did not help at all.

SOURCE: double print or a shadow print
You have probably been using non genuine toner, some kinds of this toner is not the same quality as Brother toner and just chews you drum out before its due to be changed. Change the drum and use genuine toner.

There is no reset code the likely thing is that you have a faulty toner cartridge. Put another new one in and check the machine then.
Before you try the above shake the toner cartridge and tap it some more as it may also be the toner inside have become solid and needs breaking up.
Hope one of the above works for you

If it is on copying it can be a build up of ink on the scanner glass. Open the cover in which the the original is scanned. There will be glass strip that can be cleaned also check the white plate that sits above the scan glass.
If it is recieved faxes and prints as well the problem is going to be the drum has worn out. You have two machines, try interchanging the drums to see if the lines that are present on one machine travels to the next. That way you can see if it is definately the drum. If so change the drums on the machines and they should be fixed.

your drum unit which you have replaced have still not detected by the fax machine.you have to reset the machine when you change the drum.or replace the drum and insert the new drum in the OFF mode so it will not know if any thing changed in the machine and mostly should work as normal.
please keep updated.

To reset the sensor after installing a new toner cartridge follow these steps.
1. With unit powered On, open the front cover.
2. Press the "Options" key. Display will show "Replace Drum?"
3. Press "Start" key.
4. Press 1,0 .
5. Display will show "Accepted" for approximately 2 seconds. Then display will change to "Cover Open".
6. Close cover and see if Toner Life End error message has gone.
Please note that this must be done with a new cartridge so the unit will see that there is toner in the cartridge.
