Question about General Electric GE Circuit Breaker THQL1120HM 20amp 1-pole Plug-in Circuit Breaker

1 Answer

Seimens equivalent to GE THQL11xxHM

The vendor of the product I am installing recommended a GE THQL11xxHM or equivalent breaker to power the product where xx is the amperage needed. I my case I need a 20 amp breaker. They also refer to the breaker as a "High Magnetic breaker" which is to handle the inrush load when power is applied.

Do you know of a Siemens equivalent to the GE breaker?

Thanks,
Myron McCarty

1991 Nissan maxima burnt fuseable link

I recommend replacing fusible links with either a fuse of equivalent value (using a standard accessory fuse holder), or with a self-resetting breaker of equivalent value. If the replacement fuse or breaker also blow, you have a problem with the circuit that needs to be corrected (which will require basic troubleshooting).

14 month old water heater stopped working

Which water heater do you have??? What is year of manufacture?
Rheem-GE Geo spring hybrid: Rheem-GE heat pump ?? then call GE 888-443-4394 for recommendation of local service technician and expect to pay $400 and do not expect problem to get solved unless area has experienced, certified water-heater-air-conditioning expert.
Installation must be done correctly. For example if water heater is set too close to wall, then service technician will expect you to hire plumber to empty tank and move away from wall and install correctly before repair can resume. It's a nuisance, but this is accurate information based on others who have posted questions.
Copy following link for resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Review-GE-Heat-Pump-water-heater.html#maintenance
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-heat-pump-manuals-by-date.html
There are no service manuals available for homeowner, which is why this product is unwise choice for any installation.
Unit is not protected from power surge. Install one-time-use whole house power surge.
Make sure unit is connected to 240V, and that breaker is not tripped off on one leg. Move wires to another same size breaker. Check wire connections at water heater and confirm 240V.
Check that installation is done correctly as shown on link above.
14 months old means that labor warranty has expired by 2 months. However parts are still covered.
Do not buy expensive water heaters that cannot be repaired easily by homeowner. This single repair can eliminate all anticipated savings from buying product.
If expected heat-pump repair will cost $400, then buy off-the-shelf electric water heater from Lowes for $250 and save the expensive repair.

Installing arc fault interrupter with ground fault

If you meant arch fault with ground fault then no, the two types interfere with each other and trip the breaker as one senses an arch and the other grounding.
If you meant ground fault breaker with a GFCI. receptacle, you only need one of the two, either GFCI. breaker or receptacle.

and for circuits, you can put up to 12 devices (i.e receptacle, light)assuming they consume 1 amp each. Anything over 12 amps or 80% of the rating on the breaker, it will trip/reset.
Or if your talking about wires on a breaker then no more than 2 wires recommended. Try adding a junction box outside the panel if your trying to add other branch circuits or tap off of a receptacle.

I have a whirlpool dryer model #LER5636EQ3 which the power cord was missing upon aquiring it, the wall socket in my laundry room is a 50amp, so I need to know if a 50amp power cord would be a proper...

The recommended power cord is a 30 amp 3- or 4- wire cable. A 50 A cord could cause a problem by allowing a surge to the dryer motor and damage the dryer or start a fire. There are 30A to 50A adapters (see RV and boat supply vendors). The installation instructions for the LER5636EQ3 are available here: https://www.whirlpool.com/digitalassets/MLPDF/Installation%20Instructions%20-%203397618.pdf . See page 5 of the PDF.

Note: the 50A outlet has a 50A circuit breaker protecting it. If you swap the outlet to a 30A outlet, you will also need to replace the breaker with a 30A one.

I hope this helps.

What gauge wire do I use for 220V / 11000W / 50A water heater

I'd like to say use #10 wire, but your best calling your local building dept. as they may have specific code requirements. You don't want to risk having to rip it out later if soeone finds a violation. Even worse, if you ever go to sell the property the building inspector may site you for a violation killing the sale.

How to install arc fault circuit interrupter

connect the neutral from the circuit to the afci breaker, and run the neutral that came on the afci breaker to the neutral bar in the panel. Make sure that the neutral that you connect from the circuit to the afci breaker is the one that belongs to the circuit that you're protecting or the afci wont work.
