Hi, you need to remove the platter and then unscrew the under platter cover to access fuses. Cheers john, Stylus City

You have 4 wires coming from the needle pickup to the cables which connect to the amplifier/receiver. I would check the needle, the pickup unit, and the leads from the pickup to the cables. You can probably run a continuity test or ohm test for verification. If that checks, pickup and needle is your next step.

hello

You need a belt.. Lift up the record support..(platter) Underneath you will see a metal post.. Belt goes around that and the bottom of the plate.(there is a rim) . If the belt is there, motor might be bad..

SOURCE: Changing the belt on a Technics SL-3 (Linear tracking) turntable

Instructions on installation of your drive belt - this also applies to other brands as well - however this belt is only for the Technics models listed above:

  1. Remove the turntable platter off from the turntable
  2. Remove the old/damage belt
  3. Wrap the new belt underneath the turntable platter - you will see a small lip on the bottom of the platter. Wrap the belt around this lip.
  4. Put the platter back on the turntable
  5. The turntable platter will have small holes, rotate the platter until you see the motor, and the motor shaft.
  6. Pinch the belt, so that it wraps around the motor shaft
  7. Turn on and enjoy!

SOURCE: Technics SL-J1 turntable drive belt

Hello Cliff,
You will need 2 belts, if the turntable belt is gone the other is not far behind . One for the turntable size 23.6 inch by .188 and one for the tracking motor that is in the top cover part, is a 3.0 inch by .046 belt. best place to get them is at kenselectronics.com part numbers 1407-201 and AV-SBS3.0 if you have been checking around you will see other sizes, I have a SL-J1 and have used these and they work perfectly.

The power supply of the turntable needs checking. It could be just a fuse or something more serious, such as a faulty transformer.

No power when i turn on my mk3 turntable

Check the internal fuses. There are two. You have to strip the unit down to get to them.

This video will show you what's involved:

Sounds like your transformer is blown. This is located underneath the turntable platter, right next to the main PCB (Printed Circuit Board). You'll have to have this replaced. I do not suggest replacing it yourself, unless you are handy with electronics. Otherwise, please take it to a service center for repair.

FYI, the part is located here (www.1200s.com), so you can purchase the part separately, then take it in.

Good luck!

They wont turn on

Check the fuses. If the fuses are good, then it's the transformer that is shot. The fuses are located underneath the turntable platter. If your unit does not have any fuses, then the only problem could be with your transformer. You can PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT TRANSFORMER HERE.

Good Luck!
