SOURCE: How to remove impeller on pool pump to replace seal?

First, separate motor and pump. Remove back cover of motor. Drive shaft of motor either has a slot on end for a large screwdriver or a flat on it for a wrench.(usually 7/16) Hold shaft and unscrew impeller.

My pump squeels loudly. I think it's a bearing that I can't get to bacause I am having trouble getting the impellar off.

Your impeller may have a locking bolt that goes through the center of the impeller. If it does, this has a reverse thread on it. If that is not the issue you may insert a skinny screwdriver into the vents under the motor to jam the fan, thus securing the motor shaft. You may carefully insert a screw driver into the impeller vanes to twist off the shaft.

How do you remove the impeller on a honda wt40x trash pump?

The impeller is threaded onto the crankshaft. Pull the spark plug wire then turn the motor until you are coming up on the compression stroke and the vanes of the impeller are mostly vertical. At about two o'clock on the pump bell there should be a port so you can put a metal rod through it, resting it against one of the vanes at the top of the impeller. Go to http://powerequipment.honda.com/pumps/models/wt40 and about half way down the page it shows the "Easy quick cleanout port" feature. This is how you should be set up to turn the impeller counter-clockwise to turn it off. The use of a dead blow hammer or one similar to the one in the Honda picture is recommended as the impeller is cast and a steel hammer may cause the impeller to crack. Put the new one on tight but don't worry about overdoing it, the motor spins in a self tightening direction so it'll get tighter with use.

I need to know how to tape the impeller off. i was told that i had to pull the pump apart in order to remove the impeller????

You do not supply much information, but yes, the impeller sits right inside a pump housing, Split the housing and the impeller is the vaned part that is attached to the shaft, the pump rear casing will have remained behind. The should be a nut holding the impeller in place and it may very well be a left hand threaded nut. Remove the nut and the impeller will come off with a little coaxing. Some impellers are press fitted and may need a puller to remove.

Last two flushes on my saniplus there was a rattling noise and now the motor just hums and water will not evacuate.

It sounds like you may have broke a piece off the impeller vanes. This may have gotten caught in between the outer rim of the impeller and the pump housing. You will have to take the base off the pump to clean and inspect.Thank you

Just cleaned filters and reinstalled them and the flow is only about a fifth of normal. I noticed that the filter basket on the pump was cracked and was wondering if debris got through if the pump...

How old are the cartridges? They last 2-4 years depending on operating conditions beyond which no amount of cleaning can bring them back.

To check your impeller simply remove the six bolts holding the motor and moving parts of the pump into the housing and pull the motor back out. The diffuser sits over the impeller and it may be there or still in the housing. It aligns over the impeller with pegs and only fits properly in one orientation. If it is over the impeller pull it off and check all the impeller vanes for debris. Clean it if necessary.

If there is nothing in the impeller consider replacing the cartridge or the possibility you now have a clog somewhere else in the plumbing.

My hayward super II pump output return pressure to the pool is very low.. The PSI readings seem normal and I can't see any visible blockings... How else can I test? What can be the problem?

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Start with the impeller and strainer baskets. Excessive debris in the basket(s) in front of the pump can reduce flow rates. Another possibility is debris lodged in the impeller vanes. If the baskets do not solve your problem shut down your pump and back out the 6 bolts holding the motor into the pump housing. Pull out the pump end and remove the diffuser covering the impeller (sometimes the diffuser sticks inside the housing and the impeller will already be uncovered). Use a zip tie or something else of similar strength to run thru each vane looking for things such as small toys, marbles, rocks, mulch etc. Once cleared reassemble the pump being careful to align the diffuser back over the impeller and into the pump housing correctly.

If nothing can be found in the impeller and the baskets are all cleaned and still you have reduced return pressure you will have to get into your filter to find the trouble. If you get that far, please post a comment with what brand and model filter you have for more guidance.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

No thrust in 95 wave runner jetski

Check the intake, the impeller, and the exhaust vane for rocks debris and damage. Remove the debris, rocks, plastic, wood, etc. and reinspect for damage. If the thrust does not improve after clean out, then you have to remove the intake grate , ride plate, impeller housing, and replace the damaged impeller and possibly the impeller housing depending on how much damage there is.

My pool pump has a loud grinding sound

There is a number of things that could be causing the problem. The most likely thing is that a bearing on the motor is going out. The other possibility is that there's a foreign object stuck in the impeller. The best thing to do would be to DISCONNECT THE POWER and then remove one of the pipes connected to the pump. See if the impeller (the wheel with vanes on it) turns freely. If it doesn't turn freely and there's no foreign objects, then it's a bearing going bad. You should turn the pump off because it could damage itself further. Depending on your mechanical skill or availability of a local motor shop, it might be cheaper to get a new motor or whole new pump than it would be to repair it.

JANDY JHPU2.5 POOL PUMP WILL NOT WORK

Did you separate motor from pump? If not, then there is most likely small debris lodged between impeller vanes which must be removed with a small pick or wire. hope this helps.
