SOURCE: transmission oil ? for cub cadet tractor

Hi, Cissy, Every Cub Cadet is different, and they keep their manuals to themselves. With your exact model and serial number, you can go to their website and view the manual for your model which should have the type of oil you need. Their website is www.cubcadet.com and go to service. If you have trouble, let me know, but I will need the model and serial. Good Luck, this should Fixya!

Hello bigdave1138:

From your Description it Sounds like the Stator/Charging Coils are Bad or the Voltage Regulator (if Applicable) is Bad.
For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p_created=1101706364&p_sid=4fQ1f8Xi&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=3443&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NTEmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPTAmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1Wb2x0YWdlIGFuZCBTdGF0b3IgQ2hlY2s*&p_li=&p_topview=1 and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. SOURCE: i have a cub cadet tiller its a honda gc ft24

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

I think you just have debris in the float bowl and the jet where the bowl nut threads into the bottom of the carb but here is the engine parts manual:
http://www.hammerwall.com/Download_Manual/115010
or
http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/GetFile.do?filename=gc160a-mha2.pdf

http://www.hammerwall.com/Manuals/MTD/Description/21A395A129/MTD%20Tiller%20Honda%20Engine%20Parts%20and%20Diagrams/gc160a-mha2/

You have to click on manual location and then enter a CAPTCHA script of 4 digits when they appear.

The 2 metering jets are items 19 and 10 on pages 17 and 18 of the manual.

^- I think this is where your problem lies. Simply cleaning with some carb cleaner in the threaded are where the bowl nut threads into the body usually gets them going again. If not you will have to use a thin bladed screwdriver and first remove orifice jet 19 then jet 10, clean them up and reinstall.

Other possibilites: (Noted you said you had fuel to the carb)
1. The fuel tank port is covered in debris
2. Fuel filter Item 27 on page 22 of the manual is clogged.
3. Check all of the lines from the fuel tank to the carb on page 22 to include the breather line of the fuel pump. On this particular engine these lines are known problems. Especially the breather line that drives the fuel pump.
4. The fuel float needle can also have debris in it. Item 9 page 17.
5. The bowl nut itself has debris in it clogging jets 19 and 10 on page 17.

SPRINGS are items 4 and 5 on page 24 of the pdf file. There is also a spring washer item 7 on page 24.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I need to know what brand and type of oil to put in my cub cadet rt 65 tiller

As 1st option,It would be best to call the manufacturer Cub Cadet,or their Authorized Repair Center, and ask them directly.
Refer to the manual that came with the tiller.

As 2nd option, a general small engine repair shop can be helpful too.

Have a nice day.

I'm not sure what brand engine you have in your Cadet but I've experianced in the past that either excessive grass clipping build up and field mice building their nest behind the air vane governor can cause these kinds of symptoms. I would suggest removing the upper engine shroud and inspect if there is anything causing the obstruction of the govenor function. Compressed air works great for cleaning all the mess out from under the engine shroud. Inspect and oil all governor links and levers and make sure it moves freely. Also make sure that your throttle cable is adjusted correctly so your carb. can achieving wide open throttle. Hope This Helps.

I have a cub cadet 982 with onan 19.9 the motor surges at idle like its sucking air put new gaskets on carb points and condensors are good it boogs down a little only when mowing im guessing the governor

pull your spark plug out, what color is it? the whiter it is the leaner the motor is running and very well could be vacuum leak. if you take a can of carb spray, brake cleaner, wd 40 and spray it around the carb and hoses if there is a vacuum leak you'll find it. if your plug is dark you have to much fuel and may need to adj something. let me know what you find

I have a cub cadet tiller. It just won't start.

  • Hi I'm Peter, there should be an on /off switch you need to put in the start position then you can pull start it. You will also use this same switch to turn it off.Make sure you have it in neutral also before you try to start or stop it. I am assuming you have fuel in it and oil so if you have done all of these things and it still won't start then you may want to check your gas to see if there is any water in it. Replace the plug, If the tiller has been sitting out in the weather you may have to pull the cover off and use a wire brush or sandpaper to clean the rust off the flywheel and coil. If you have to take the coil off to clean the contact points then use a 3x5 index card to put between the flywheel and the coil when you install the coil. The Magnet will pull the coil and flywheel together and the 3x5 card will give you the approximate clearence between the coil and flywheel Tighten the two small screws that hold the coil on and rotate the flywheel and pull the 3x5 card ( or you could use a business card ) out. Don't worry if you tear the card it's done it's job. LOL If it won't start after all of that you may want to verify you have fuel getting to the carb and spark to the plug. If nothing the it may be time for a carb rebuild . The worse thing you can do is leave gas in an engine then let it set for a few months as the gas will evaporate and leave a sticky sludge in the carb. You could try some carb cleaner before you tear into or pay someoneone to rebuild the carb but hopefully you've already gotten it going by now. Peter

Cub Cadet 2165 engine surges and eventually stalls

Replace the fuel cap!!! The problem is that hte fuel cap vents from it's underside. In so doing it sucks up all of the grass debris and dust that hte mower deck kicks up and the vents get clogged up. As the engine uses the gas, it builds up a vacuum in the tank and the gas can no longer flow from the tank to the engine.
