SOURCE: The On/off button is loose - I need to lift the keyboard

It depends what type of system you have...It it not very difficult. Some laptops like Dell xps, are so simple that you just need to lift a small face plate right below the screen and under it, it has 3 screws and keyboard pops right off...others you have to remove some screws from under the computer itself. Every laptop computer is slightly different. If you have the owner's manual, it walks you step by stem where to find the screws. If you don't have one, you can download it from the manufacturer's website ..it is a very smaill pdf file.

Good luck

How to change the battery

Most laptop batteries are easy to take out if you are talking about the main power source.. if you are talking about the cmos battery then you need to get inside the machine, for main power supply you are simply removing the battery by sliding the retaining sliders and lifting out the battery then putting in the new battery...for the cmos you need to take out all the rear screws and lif of the keyboard , then take out any other connectors till you can safely remove the casing to gain access to the button cell, remove and replace..then sticking everything back together

Computer was locked

Resetting the CMOS password on an Acer Aspire laptop is much more difficult than resetting the password on a desktop.
Disassembly steps vary from model to model, but on most models, you'll have to take apart the computer to access the CMOS battery.
Don't take apart the notebook if you don't have experience disassembling PCs.
After turning off the computer and disconnecting the AC adapter, take out the battery (different from the CMOS battery).
All visible screws must then be removed from the bottom of the notebook.
Remove all components stored to their separate compartments on the base of the notebook.
Turn over and open the PC. Lift up the switch cover and remove the screws securing the keyboard to the PC, if any are visible.
Remove the keyboard.
Remove the screws securing the monitor to the hinges, and then set the monitor aside.
Disconnect all visible cables connected to the motherboard; and then remove the screws from the top cover.
Remove the top cover to reveal the motherboard. Locate and then remove the CMOS battery. Leave it out of the notebook for 24 hours; then reinstall it and reassemble the Acer Aspire.
Other Options
If removing the CMOS battery fails to clear the password, or if you dont feel comfortable with the idea of opening your computer, you might be able to gain access to the computer using a backdoor password.
These special passwords were implemented to allow technicians to access locked computers. Not all models recognize backdoor passwords.
Most Acer Aspires use the Phoenix BIOS, and backdoor passwords for this BIOS include BIOS, CMOS, phoenix and PHOENIX.
All of these passwords are case-sensitive.

4 beeps but won't come on

4 beeps of equal lenght suggest that system timer is not working, you need to change cmos battery on your laptop. If you are game, that is how you change CMOS battery on your laptop:

1. Switch off computer, remove power cord and battery, turn computer "proper" side up, open and press power button to discharge
2. Open display in full (180 degree), there is small indent on hinge cover, close to hinge on right and left side, slide in little flat (screwdriver will do) and lift right side up, slide cover towards left and remove it, do not lift on both sides simultaneously!
3. Remove two small screws on the top of keyboard, lift keyboard slightly up and towards you, be aware that keys and tabs on keyboard are fragile and difficult to replace! Lift keyboard connector and slide the cable out. it is not really necessary to remove keyboard, but it easy to replace without keyboard being in the way.
4. Find coin battery, disconnect cable from socket by pulling it gently towards the battery. Remove cable from guides and battery from it's seat
5. Replace battery with exact same type, put it back into it's seat, guide wire through and connect it back to the board.
6. Re-connect keyboard cable, place front keyboard tabs into palm rest and screw back two back holding screws
7. slide in left side of hinge cover into place, press from left to right till it click in place.
8. Re-install battery and power cord, switch on computer, re-programe BIOS ito previous state.

This should solve your CMOS batery problem. Of course you can send your laptop to the technician but that will be no fun at all... ;-)

Does th-e nx6325 have a bios battery if so how do i change it

You gain access to the bios battery by lifting the keyboard. First, undo the external memory cover ( 1 screw) on the bottom of the laptop. Then you will see 2 screws which hold the keyboard down - undo these. Turn the laptop right way up, open it up and move back the 4 small keyboard retaining latches (located at the top edge of the keyboard). The keyboard can now be carefully tilted up by its top edge to reveal the motherboard with the bios battery there in the middle.

How do i change the cmos battery in a travelmate c110. The time and date and bios settings keep changing. Figure it needs a cmos battery. thanks

The cmos battery is exactly located beneath in between the touchpad and speaker, it's a meticulous job, you could see a twin cable leading through the keyboard area. After removing the keyboard, cut the battery wires at the edge of the old battery and replace the new sealed pack by soldering its wires to the same connection. Be cautioned not to break off the slim edges of the keyboard sides by attempting to reach the battery while lifting up top silver panel from the front near the Infrared.

Laptop CMOS battery

This is for Winbook WinBest 233MMX may be good for other Winbooks
Had trouble booting then just quit booting altogether...
For a quick fix that won't require soldering....
Replace the cmos battery2.gif. If it is more than 7 years old, it will most likely be weak or dead.
Remove the keyboard by sliding the KB toward you and lift the top up and slide out, Remove KB ribbon cable2.gif from connector by pulling on the plastic tab, remove the 4pin KB power connector. Then remove bottom screws and separate the case.
Locate the 3V battery, Pry the top tab of the 3v battery off the welded ends with a small needlenose, Pry the battery off the mini board, bend battery tabs so the new non-tabbed battery will be squeezing the new battery for contact, + is up!, add a piece of electrical tape to secure it from sliding. Replace bottom case and screws and then re-attach keyboard2.gif ribbon cable and 4 wire power connector. Re-boot and reset cmos ( CTRL-ALT-S ) on boot. Set your time. You must set the boot sequence to C:. It will then auto boot to C: WALLA! WIN98!
