Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Liftmaster 1/2 - Will not close

I have a Lift Master 1/2 hp garage door opener. When I press the wall mounted control the door begings to close but then reverses and the light begins to flash. If I hold down the button on the wall control the it will close the door. This morning I fiddled with the screw controls on the motor unit itself and now the door will not stay in the closed position at all. On the sensors themselves, the left one (as you look outside my door) is solid yellow. The right one is green, however, is not lit up.

What usually happens is a sensor gets bumped so that they no longer are pointed at one another. They must be for the light on the second sensor to come on. Tweak them and see if you can get the light to come on. If you can't you either have bad wiring going to that sensor or the sensor itself has quit working.

Lift master formula I will not close, only goes half way down, but fully opens. Worked fine until my wife closed the door on the car, after that it would fully close

I had this problem as well with the door opening just fine but was not closing when using the remotes or when breifly pressing the wall mounted control. The door would close only when using the wired wall mount control. I have experienced this problem with other garage door openers I've had in my previous homes and it was always caused by sensors at the bottom of the door tracks being either misaligned or the lenses were dirty. In this case, and it was just a moment ago today, I simply cleaned the sensor lenses and then the door began to function properly. Give it a try.

If you have the 3 button wall control you need to press and hold the button with the lock icon for 3 seconds.

You may also need to new wall control. You shouldn't have to hold that button in nor press a second time.

The most common cause of this problem is a bad wall control the wiring going to it. You can eliminate both temporarily by removing the wire at terminal 1 on the back of the motor unit. The wiring sometimes is shorted by the staples the installer uses. The wall control gets used a lot.

Garage Door won't close

It sounds like the door sensors have been bumped or somehow gotten misaligned. Tweak them until the light on each one is lit and not blinking. They must be pointed at one another.
