Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

3 Answers

Western Digital external harddrive, WD5000E035 (although XP device manager says 600) has stopped showing powerlight (on transformer) and stopped showing up in drive list on computer (although device manager, helpful as usual. reports its working properly!). Searching forums I see this is common, but the explanations differ. I want to keep the data - what should I do (note, I'm in Europe so sending to US a no-go)?

My conclusion after online hep and research is that the WD600 drive is in fact referring to my built in drive. The other one simply isn't being read. I'll nevertheless try the idea of another power cable.
    Thanks all for your tips.

If the transformer has gone down and that implied by the green light going down, try another power adaptor but please make sure the votage and amp are a match,

There are are many power supplies on the market now.

If the drive is not being powered , it won't work but that's no reason for XP to fault the driver hance showing up ok in Device Maanger

I would attempt to find a replacement transformer first. If the power lite is off, it may just be that part of your unit.

Try plugging it into a different outlet, and see if that works. When you power it on, do you hear it working?

My elements wd5000E035-00 does nothing at all

Hi s aarden,
I'm assuming this drive is connected via USB to your PC.
I Would try downloading the newest drivers from the Wester Digital website (if there are any).
Has this drive ever been recognized and/or functioning properly on this current PC?
If so, the first action I would take would be to check the state of your USB Drivers. Click Start> RIGHT-Click My Computer> Select "Manage" or "Device Manager."
Scroll down to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers." Are there any yellow or caution icons next to any items under this category?

I have western digital Passport 250 Gb external harddrive when i connect to my laptop it not showing........

Go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management Then go into Disk Management. Hopefully you will see a drive with a capacity of about 480 GB (plus or minus), that's your disk.
Right click on it and select change drive letter and change the drive letter to something that isn't in use.
If that doesn't work or it doesn't show up, go into the Device Manager from the Computer Management screen and see if there is anything under disk drives with a yellow or red symbol next to it. If so, right click it, select uninstall, then unplug the disk drive and plug it back in.

My WD5000e035 (external drive) power supply stop working. How do I fix or replace?

These adapters weren't built to be repaired, just replaced. A Google search for replacement supplies turned up several sources. Here's one business site that has them, and here's an eBay vendor that has them for a few dollars less.

My sata external usb western digital 320 gb drive only shows up as an unknown USB device. Is there any way to get my computer to recognize it. I have a laptop using windows xp. Ive tried unplugging...

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine.
try it in different usb ports.
Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers.
then check.
Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check.
If your harddrive still not recognized then you need to repair your harddrive.Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer then your harddrive has internal issue.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa

Wdc 320 gig MyBook external hd is not recognized anymore. I have attempted to access the files on several different computers (laptops). The HD is powered on (light is on). I do hear a clicking sound when...

If you hear a clicking sound then that might be the sound of a defective harddrive. You could try removing the harddrive from the case and installing it directly into the computer to see if it is working. If it does then it could be the hard drive case power supply is defective. But the clicking sounds like a defective drive. If it is still under warranty then you could get it repaired by western digital...if it is still under warranty then do not open the case or you could void it.

Western digital passport essential harddrive 250 gig

It assumes that the drive C is the drive you booted from or the "root" drive. You must make it something other than "C". Try putting in a camera card, hooking up an external drive or other device that the computer makes drive "C" THEN hook up your passport. It will be "D" or "G" or something other than "C" and it will work.

Your usb device could be finished or your USB ports may not be strong enough/ enough power to run the device.
