Needing the black plastic knob on the speed control lever for my Kitchenaid Professional 6 model #KP2671XOB

I am looking for the black plastic knob on the speed control lever for my Kitchenaid Professional 6 stand mixer (model KP2671XOB). I have been told that I can't just get the black plastic knob. Also this part is only sold as the whole control assembly. But the real problem is that this part is discontinued from the manufacturer. Can anyone help me please!

It is correct that the knob is not separate from the shaft it is attached to. If they are obsolete then hop into your local Kitchen Aid retailer and see if your missing knob looks same or similar to a current model, if so order for a current model, lever the knob off the shaft (carefully) and tap it onto your bare lever. I use a soft faced hammer for this. These folks here should be able to help if you are USA based.

I just searched the KA parts data base for this model and there is no such part???

There are a few parts that make up the speed control mechanism, the selector can only be the knob and lever. That moves the speed control plate which is the ********* square thing under the back cap that tilts when the lever is operated. There is a governor on the end of the armature under that control plate, that governs the speed by cutting the power through a circuit to maintain an even speed. Above the black control plate is a PCB (phase board I think they call it) that along with the other bits & pieces regulates the power to the control plate.

My mixer wont stay turned off it springs back to number 1 speed so i have to turn off via plug socket

Shelly, usually this can be repaired without needing ANY parts! Its pretty simple but you do have to tear apart the mixer. Here is a link to the service manual:

99% of the time you are dealing with a loose screw. So take the mixer apart, once you have done that you will find the speed control lever with knob has a screw that holds it in place and in contact with the spring. That screw can work loose and if not all the way tightened will allow your mixer to pop back into speed one. Simply tighten the screw and see if the mixer will operate correctly.

If the speed lever is working through all 10 speeds correctly re-assemble the mixer. If it does not correct the problem you will want to buy the speed control lever kit.
This will include a new speed control lever with knob, the spring, link and a gearbox gasket.

The part number you will be looking for is 4176230, it is only about $7 plus shipping of $3.25.

Looking for the black plastic knob on the speed control for my Kitchenaid Professional 6 (KP2671XOB) stand mixer

Fashion another knob out of something similar looking and bond it onto the shaft with epoxy resin. Think of another appliance that may have a black knob on it....a toaster knob maybe. A knob off an old fashioned heater control in a car.

Knob for kitchaid stand mixer

I am assuming you mean the little black knob on the speed control has broken off. I will post the solution for that problem.
The speed control lever on KitchenAid mixers has a little black knob on the end (in some cases this may be white or gray). The knob is pressed onto the lever, so if the knob breaks off your only option is to replace the whole lever.
KitchenAid has a kit that will include all you need to replace the speed control lever. It even comes with instructions. Here is a link to the speed control lever kit on our website:

The lever kit includes the speed control lever (with knob), speed link, spring, instructions and a gearbox gasket.

The instructions will only walk you through how to hook up the speed control lever, so if you also need a little guidance in taking the mixer apart, and reassembling it please use the KitchenAid service manual. The manual will walk you through all of the repairs you may need on your mixer, including how to take the mixer apart and put it back together. Here is a link to the service manual:

Remember, The Mending Shed is a Authorized KitchenAid service center, we can help you with any repair needs for your KitchenAid appliances, plus all of the parts we carry are genuine KitchenAid brand.

It is most likely a stuck control assembly item #8part #9703609 in the following parts diagram:

the parts diagram shows where it is located and you should be able to figure out how to disassemble it from the diagram.

I dropped my KitchenAid mixer on its side on the counter. The knob broke off, and now the slider bar used in speed selection appears to be bent. it's very hard to turn it on. Is this repairable?

Yes it is. The whole lever is available as a spare part. You will need to provide the complete model number and the colour of the knob (they are usually black or storm grey). It is probably this part you need:

Speed control lever stuck or locked. How do I unlock it?

Hi BROOKLYNX. To answer you primary question, no there is no special speed control knob lock that you?ve inadvertently triggered. OK, so without a lock why?s your speed control knob stuck? It most likely that something broken inside your mixer to lock it into position. I wouldn?t continue to operate your machine as you are doing. It?s not good for the electric motor, the electric cord or the plug. It would be better to determine the root cause of your control knob?s obstinacy. The inspection and troubleshooting of the inside of your mixer is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website: Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, in your case, try K45SSW, and select one of the files listed under Parts List (check to see it this matches your mixer model). Turn to pages 6 & 7, titled: Motor And Control Parts, which provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. You?ll want to focus on part #s 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, which is our speed control assembly. Check to see if something isn?t blocking you?re the movement of #3. You should be able to determine if something has broken. If something has broken, you can order replacement parts and install yourself. As far as parts go, here are four potential vendors in no particular order:;;; Prices for the same part can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping. Once apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the gears, etc. It can be messy but quite gratifying to diagnose and repair your mixer yourself. Finally, here's a link to an excellent site that details the disassembly and replacement of a mixer's grease, which might be helpful, too. Good luck and have fun. I hope this helps. Kitchenaid ksm50pob no stir speed all other speeds seem ok

I don't know if it will work for you but move the speed lever from front to back a few times as fast as you can. This will polish the contacts. This is like the old fashioned TV tuners. People used to turn them slowly and then complain when they needed serviced every 6 months. Spinning the tuner knob kept the tuners working flawlessly for years.
