No luck with spark plug out....replaced it, then turned blade 3 or 4 times (360 degree revs)..though it was alittle easier to pull it would't allow mw to pull more than 3-4" before it was too tight and wouldn't allow mwe to pull any more

Take the spark plug out with a socket wrench. Try to pull the starter rope with the plug out. If it pulls easily, pull it through a few times and after making sure the plug is clean and dry, reinsert the plug and pull again. IF when the plug is out, it doesn't pull through, with the plug still out, tip the mower up and attempt to rotate it slowly by moving the blade. K

sounds like you may have gotten some moisture in your fuel lines, carb or tank.
I'd drain the fuel, and replace it all...

Went to start my XL500 homelite chainsaw and the rope won't pull out.It worked fine when I ran it dry for storage, now it seems like th sprocket won't turn. looks like chain oil is comming out

If it is bar oil then the gasket is leaking between the oil tank and the crankcase, this would mean a full strip down and replace the gasket.

Gx160 pull cord rope broken

1. Buy a starter repair kit or get five feet of nylon rope similar to what was in the starter from a Lowe's, The Home Depot or the like.
2. Remove the three bolts holding the starter on the motor and remove any remaining rope on the pulley.
3. Line the hole in the pulley up with the hole in the starter housing and thread the rope through both.
4. Tie a tight knot in the end of the rope and cut the tail off so it won't interfere with motor but not so short the knot comes undone.
5. Thread the other end of the rope through the t-handle and tie a knot in the very end so the handle won't come off and the rope won't be pulled into the starter during the next part.
6. Pull the rope up between the starter housing and pulley and get the rope into the notch in the pulley. Turn the pulley clockwise with the rope in the notch to put tention on the spring. Give it four turns.
7. When the notch gets back to the hole in the housing, hold the pulley and pull the rope back into place from outside the housing.
8. Let the pulley turn slowly so it retracts the rope.
9. You want four windings on the pulley and the t-handle to be held against the housing. If you don't get four windings on the pulley, give the pulley another tension turn (Step 6). If you have four windings and the t-handle isn't held against the housing or you get more that four windings, shorten the rope at the t-handle.
10. Reinstall the starter and you will be back in business.

I replaced the pull cord on an mtd mower. and now it won't rewind the cord?

You have to tension the spring before installing the cord. Remove the cord. Put the recoil assembly in a vise. Prepare the ends of the cord so they can be threaded into place. Spin the pulley in the proper direction until it is tight. Align the hole in the housing with the hole in the pulley. Thread the rope in and knot it and pull tight. Slowly let the spring tension retract the rope. Cut the rope to length, install handle, knot and test.

Recoil pulley assembly keeps binding. Rope stays in pulley, but won't retract. Must remove motor housing , loosen 3 pulley hold down guides, & uncock the pulley. spring tension on recoil is fine....

Have you ever replaced the recoil rope, if you had is it a larger rope then the one that came with it? If so, that could be the cause of the binding. I had that difficulty once.
