You can put it in any position that you would like. There is no effect to its performance when you lay it down, unless the CD player wont hold the disk.

How TO OPEN MY cpu OF gx 240

First, lay the tower down flat with the CD drive facing upward. There are darker colored buttons on the left and right side of the tower (from the front view). Push and hold these buttons in, then lift up from the rear of the tower. These are a ****-shell design so the back will tilt up and allow you access to the inside of the computer.

If your Dell doesn't look like this, then there is a plastic lever release on the back corner near the top corner (on the left side); Lift up slightly, and push the left side door towards the rear, and it should slide back slightly and off.

Can I lay the tower on its side, or does it have to be upright?

most pc's will be fine laying on their side as long as its the right hand side as you are looking at the front of the pc, if you turn it the other way up, you could get overheating problems from your cpu. so looking at the front of the machine, rotate it clockwise to lay it down. You should be fine although your cd drive may not hold the disc in the drawer this way.

Hope this helps.

How to open dell optiplex 360 box case

For mini tower

You need to lay the unit on its side. I believe there are butttons on the top and bottom back. You need to press both at the same time and lift (at the same time). The link below has a picture with it open.

Not 100% sure for the desktop.

The following link has diagrams with both the units open, this should help.

Is it ok to lay this computer on it's side?

Hi,

Yes you can lay the computer on its side. With it facing towards you carefully lay it on it's right hand side and don't place anything heavy on it while it's on it's side.

Many Dells are designed to stand up or lay on their sides, it should be safe and won't cause you any trouble.

Regards.

Mini tower desk fan smells like it burned

no. you are correct in attempting to lubricate this motor, except that use 30W motor oil...WD40 is great to "loosen" the bearing, will only last a short time. The motor shaft should spin freely as this is not a permanent magnet type motor. This motor is widely used and quite common. I often "cure" broken machines by lubricating these motors. There is only a magnetic coupling (when powered) between the rotating shaft and coil. it should be safe to handle this motor even when powered up, providing there is no electrical damage to the coil. Think of this motor as a magnetic machine that requires AC power for the magnet.

Water tower

I had the same problem finding a Water Tower laying in the bottom of the dishwasher. Solution is to simply lift the bottom rack and insert the tower into the center-most square hole. Twist the tower with the large lip on the bottom of the rack and the two plastic pieces will overlap two sides of the square hole. It will come lose again in time, but just reset it again.
