That depends on how many legs were counted. Without that information the answer could be anywhere from 74 cows and no geese to no cows and 74 geese.

Use this formula: f(n) = n(n+1)/2, where "n" is the last number of the sequence of numbers you are adding (in this case, "n" would be "24").
So: f(24) = 24(24 + 1) / 2 f(24) = 600 / 2 f(24) = 300
There are 300 geese altogether

Rabbits and chickens

Let C = # of Chickens and R = # of Rabbits
Let CL = # of Chicken Legs and RL = # of Rabbit Legs
C + R = 52 (each chicken and each rabbit have a head)
R = 52 - C
CL = 2C (each chicken has 2 legs)
RL = 4R (each rabbit has 4 legs)

CL + RL = 148
2C + 4 (52 - C) = 148
-2C + 208 = 148
C = 30

R = 52 - C = 52 - 30
= 22

There are 30 chickens and 22 rabbits.
