SOURCE: ceilng fan conversion

It depends. Until the late 1990s, there were only four different variations of switch cap (the part you want), and they were interchangeable between fans. Now, there are literally hundreds.

The Sonoma uses one of the regular old 4, and one was included with your fan in case you wanted to mount it without the light kit. You must call Hampton Bay and order a replacement.

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I have two ceiling lights in a room. Want to install ceiling fan in one outlet. How do I wire it so that I can have fan in one place but turn off light in other? Do I have to hot-wire ceiling fan?

You simply use the ceiling fan switch to power the fan. U can hook it up in parallel to the other light fixture. The wall switch can power both units but you can always shut off the fan. To run the fan and kill the light you would need a separate circuit for the light with its own switch. Or hot wire the fan as you indicated.

Where is the model number of a flush mount ceiling fan?

Where can I locate the model number of the fan?
There's a gold sticker on top of your fan's motor (the part that faces the ceiling once it is installed). Holding a mirror above the fan motor can help you read the numbers. It may also be found on the parts guide that was packed with your fan or on the box that contained your fan. You're looking for a 5-digit number and it sometimes has a suffix...i.e. 22345A

Cover to light has fallen off twice (two different fans) Stealth and Belair. What can be done to prevent this problem ?

Both of these fans have a keyed light cover that is pushed in and twisted to lock into place. As you twist the cover into place you should feel it drop slightly when it is past the lock tabs. When locked in it is impossible for the cover to come fully off in normal operation. There are tabs in the lamp cover that prevent it from coming all the way off. To remove, lift slightly and twist. Clockwise to install and counter-clockwise to remove. It helps to wiggle slightly when installing to fully tighten, and again for removal. Be certain that it is twisted far enough to clear the lock tabs on the cover when installing.

I wish to install a ceiling fan in my bedroom. The roughing is already installed in my ceiling. The problem is the electrical box is recessed a half inch into the ceiling. Could I mount the ceiling fan if...

a celing fan should only be mounted on a box rated for a ceiling fan. This is a NEC code requirement. You could remove your existing box, and install a new box rated for a ceiling fan. You install the adjustable cross bar, and then attach the box to it. It also has stronger threaded inserts for the fan attaching bolts. Better than having a fan flying through the room.

REMOVAL FROM CEILING

In general, the steps are:

1. Turn off power at the breaker -- not just the light switch.
(There are still "hot" wires in the junction box when "Off".)

2. Take out any light bulbs.

3. Remove any light globes. Some screw in, but most are held by springs so just pull gently with a bit of force.

4. Remove fan blades. Most have a spring at the inside edge of the blade -- press down on the spring and push the blade toward the fan motor.

5. Remove the ceiling mount cover. There is usually a circular ring up next to the ceiling; just twist it off with your hands ("lefty - loosy, righty-tighty").

6. Unscrew the ceiling mount screws. Usually there is one or two in a "simple" hole, and two one "sliding" slots. Take out the "simple" screws, and loosen (but don't remove) the "sliding" screws. Be careful not to drop screws or washers into the fan motor.

7. Twist off the ceiling mount cover to expose the wiring.

8. Disconnect all wires. For safety, put a wire nut on the wires from the ceiling.

9. Tip the fan and remove it from the ceiling mount. Keep in mind that the fan is pretty heavy, and you're on a ladder!

NOTE: Be careful not to put any pressure on any of the blade holders, especially if you intend to re-use the fan. If you do, the blades will wobble.

10. If you're installing a new fan, you can probably re-use the mount. If you want to put up a simple light fixture, remove the mount by unscrewing the two long screws holding it to the junction box.
