Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a 3 yr old Dell Latitude E5520 Core i7 that won't boot to Windows 7last few weeks it hangs on the Intel Bios screen & then goes to a black screen sometimes with or without a cursor. Rarely comes to windows after then without hard shut down holding power for 10 and then restart. It also seems to be overheating (fan always running). Time for a new computer or fixable?

Testimonial: "Thanks for the response Charles. Will I be erasing all the data on my computer or should it survive the reinstall (sorry haven't had to do this since the early 90s.) Also tells me what kind of time-consume I should allow. Thanks in advance for your response."

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 8600 - overheating and shutting down

Start by cleaning the fan and heat sink. Dirt or dust build up can cause them not to work as efficiently as they should. If cleaning doesn't fix it, you might consider replacing the fan and heat sink or purchasing a cooling pad.

Disable the turbo memroy driver and see if it will let you go onlin, if so download the driver or updated driver (if any), then unistall and reinstall it. If it won't allow you to do this, then try a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc.

What cause dell to beep once and shut down

This is the bios - POST (Power On Start-up Test). Most likely your bios needs reset by using the jumper on the motherboard. If that don't work then the bios is not saving the right information. i would recommend to replace the motherboard.

Intel DQ965GF Motherboard won't load WIN OS (WINXPPro volume disk or Win7) tho an old Dell disk did load. Is there a fix? Thz

Hello here is the homepage:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Desktop+Boards&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+965+Express+Chipset+Family+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Desktop+Board+DQ965GF

Windows 7 is not a supported system, but you can use the drivers from the vista system, but only the 32 bit.

Turn on or restart your computer and watch for a message during the post about a particular key, usually Del or F2, that you'll need to press to ...enter SETUP. Press this key as soon as you see the message.

After the post, BIOS will attempt to boot from the first device listed in the boot order. You need to change that, so the first boot device in the list is the dvd drive. If that device is not bootable, BIOS will attempt to boot from the second device listed, and so on.

Note: The boot order is a BIOS setting so it's OS independent. In other words, it doesn't matter if you have Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Linux, or any other PC operating system on your hard drive or other bootable device, these boot sequence change instructions will still apply.

Here is how you do this:

http://www.hiren.info/pages/bios-boot-cdrom

But ofcourse there could be a problem with the dvd drive or harddrive.

To install windows 7, you will need at least 1 gb ram or more, and a dual core cpu.

Best of luck

Laptop goes blank on startup but still display logon screen

Have you upgraded the OS? At boot start tapping the F-2 key, do not wait for the Dell screen. Take a look at this forum:http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-95/dell-s-bios-startup-screen/85976.html
