Question about Whirlpool GS6SHEXNL Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

Maytag refrigerator compressor working, hot, no fans at all

Model MDZ2766GE SxS compressor is running, condenser is cooling, no fans, internal or external, are running. The compressor is hot because the fans don't run. ADC has been replaced twice, but it doesn't seem to me that the compressor would run if it was stuck on defrost cycle. Compressor relay was replaced 6 mos ago on recall, could that be the problem? I'm handy, can use a voltmeter, but the service guide was taken a while ago, so I don't know where to start. This unit has been nothing but trouble, I will never buy anything Maytag again. If I wasn't an unemployed victim of the economy, I would gladly push it off a cliff and never look back. Thanks for any help.

SOURCE: not cooling

The clicking you are hearing is your overload on your start system sounds like your compresser start ststem is out..or your compresser is locked up the only way to tell is to ohm out the compresser idf you dont have a meter you can install a start kit like a Supco Pro41 or a RCO410 or a factory replacement and see if it starts up the compresser.. Have you cleaned the condenser at all ??? although this will not fix the compresser it can be a cause of overheating..The part Number you need is a 2188831 for the factory replacemenet ($22.56)the supco parts part number SU RCO410 ($15.00) the Pro41 is part #
SU PRO41 ($17.97) you can get them at your local parts house they are all easy to change or if you dont have a parts house close you can oder it on the web at www.apdepot.com Hope this fixes ya

SOURCE: Whirlpool side by side Refrigerator not cooling, two -- where -18 temp used to be.

the fact the bowl was filled with water and that you said the inside of the freezer was coated with ice, indicates a failure of the defrost system.
now the ice has gone, reset the temps and wait to see what happens

SOURCE: Whirlpool Refrigerator not working

Hi. Due to the fact that the fans are not operational, this will confirm that the Main PCB has failed. This is the main power control board. It must be replaced, asap. The general location of this affected board will be just behind an access panel, near the compressor unit, or on the backside, mounted in the middle section of the unit.

Once the Main PCB board is replaced, the unit will return to its normal operating status.

SOURCE: I have a whirlpool refrigerator model ED25TQXFW01

You can purchase a kit which is part number URCO410 which is a new relay, overload, and capacitor. If its a newer whirlpool you will want to hook the wires into your old capacitor. It comes with instructions its very easy to install. The reason you want to use your OEM capacitor is because it will draw a lower amperage and give your compressor a longer life as opposed to using the capacitor that comes with the kit. Hope this helps _MJ_

Maytag Performa Model # PSB2151GRW Fridge is blowing warm air and you can hear a clicking sound from the lower part of the fridge every 2 - 3 minutes. Fridge not cooling at all.

Your compressor is damaged. It must be either serviced or recharged. This is going to require a service call no matter what the solution due to the need for recharge after the compressor is replaced.

Rangemaster sxs cream . Why is my fridge and freezer the same temp ???? If anybody could give me an answer or solution.

Jason,
MOST refrigerators get there cold from the freezer side and circulate it via a fan that's also normally inside the freezer. There are three motors normally in a refrigeration system. The inside Evaporator fan motor that circulates air across the evaporator coil inside the box, the Condenser fan motor near the compressor that cools the freon after compression, and the compressor itself. If you open the doors (and sometimes you may have to hold in the door switches) do you hear a fan running? If not you could have a couple things going on: 1. The fan(s) has failed. 2. The freezer Evap coil may of iced over and the fan too is frozen stopped. 3. Your condensing unit:(compressor, condenser fan, condenser coils) has a problem.
It is important to know if the compressor itself is running. If there is a loose connection to the compressor via the start/over load relay (normally attaches directly onto the compressor), or if the start/over load otself is bad the compressor will not run. Best way to tell is via gauges but I doubt your frig has ports. Check to see if your compressor is really hot. Could be bad start/over load relay or bad compressor. Try unplugging your frig for say 30 min then, with your hand on top of a cool compressor, plug the frig back in and see if compressor smoothly vibrates for at least 5 min without becoming very hot or shutting off even though fan continues to run. The fact your fan is running TYPICALLY means the thermostat is calling for lower temps and the fan/compressor kick in together.

Maytag refrigerator / freezer compressor fan not running and some items in freezer appear to be thawing

Check to see if the fan mount bent somehow. The fan blade just might be jammed. If not see if the fan is getting power. The unit will not cool properly if the compressor and condenser are not being cooled down by that fan.

Cabinet flanges and mullion very hot to the touch and not cooling at all, model ed25qf

turn your frig off as soon as possible! this is an easy fix but if it goes to long it can cause permanent damage to the compressor and then you have a huge repair bill, or a big piece of trash :(

What has happened is this:

There is a fan called the condenser fan that blows air across the compressor to keep it cool. This fan has stopped working for some reason and now the compressor is VERY hot. When this happens it stops running and you get zero cold produced.

The reason the mullion is hot is because there is tubing connected to the compressor that is run through this area for condensation prevention purposes. When the condenser fan stops working, this tubing gets much hotter than normal, and that is what you are feeling.

So, replace the condenser fan motor before the compressor gets to hot that it damages itself! If I can be of further help please let me know, good luck friend!

The refrigerator is not cooling

If your freezer is frosting up, fresh food section is warm: bad fan motor, defrost drain stopped up and forming slab of ice between the freezerand the fresh food section. Check heaters andterminator(defrost thermostat) unplug the ice box and let it defrostcompletely. Clear objects from drain. Check timer. Note to find thelocation of your timer look up your model number online here: APPLIANCEPARTSPROS.COM.
Check under the bottom for the fan motor to be running and the cobwebs, dust, dirt, and pet hair, off the condenser coils. If the fanunderneath has quit then the ice box won't get cold. BASIC REFRIGERATION REPAIR MANUAL

Thant must be checked out soon as that buzzing sound is the start relay struggling to start the compressor. The longer it goes on without repair to either the sart/run capacitor, start relay and overload the higher the chance there is for complete compressor failure. The condenser and evaporator areas should be cleaned and inspect both internal freezer fan and lower condenser fan that both run without stopping. Let me look for a service manual for your model and return soon, Thanks, Sea breeze

Maytag freezer & refrigerator not coold enough

It's not cool If the refrigerator isn't cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running.

First, answer these questions:

  • Is the refrigerator completely dead? If so, see “It's stopped completely.”

  • Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? If not, reset it.

Next, see if the compressor motor is running

The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help.

If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:

  • The compressor

  • The Thermostat

  • The overload, relay, or capacitor

  • The defrost timer

  • The condenser fan motor

Cooling is poor For an overall understanding of how refrigerators should work, read about refrigerators in the How Things Work section of our website. A refrigerator or freezer that is cooling, but cooling poorly, may have a problem in one of several areas:

Evaporator coils
Condenser
Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils or a condenser that is clogged with dust, lint, and dirt.

Evaporator coils Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer. Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets.

The refrigerator is supposed to self-defrost approximately four times in every 24 hour period. If one of the components in the self-defrosting system fails, the refrigerator continues to try to cool. Eventually, though, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There may still be a small amount of cooling because the coils are icy, but with no air flow over the coils, cooling in the refrigerator compartment is quite limited.

Here's an inexpensive, though inconvenient, way to determine if the problem is with the self-defrosting system. Remove all of the perishable food from the refrigerator and freezer, turn the thermostat in the refrigerator to Off, and leave the doors open for 24 to 48 hours. (Be sure to have several towels ready in case the melting frost and ice causes the drip pan to overflow). This allows the refrigerator to defrost "manually." When the frost and ice build-up has completely melted away, turn the thermostat back to a normal setting. If the refrigerator then cools properly, it indicates a problem with one of three components in the self-defrosting system:

  • The defrost timer

  • The defrost thermostat (also called the bi-metal switch)

  • The defrost heater

If it still does not cool properly, there may be a problem with the refrigerant level or the compressor. You may need to consult with a qualified appliance repair technician to further diagnose the problem

Condenser Self-defrosting refrigerators all have a set of coils and a cooling fan, usually under the refrigerator, that need to be cleaned regularly. If these coils get coated with dust, dirt or lint, the refrigerator may not cool properly. The coils may appear to be a thin, black, wide radiator-like device behind the lower kick-panel. To clean them, disconnect the refrigerator from the power source, use a refrigerator condenser brush (see the Appliance Accessories section) and your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils of any lint, pet hair, etc. You may not be able to get to all of the condenser from the front, it may be necessary to clean the remainder of the condenser from the rear of the refrigerator. I feel heat/warmth on the front edge of my refrigerator....why?

Older refrigerators had electric heaters on the edges of the refrigerator cabinet to help prevent moisture from building up, especially in the hot/hazy weather in the summer time. These electric heaters usually had a switch where you could turn them on or off...had words like..."switch here to prevent moisture"...switch here in damp weather".... in the picture it is in the top left of the control assembly.
Then along came the energy crunch. The manufactures stopped using the electric heaters and started running a pass of the hot condenser tubing on the edges of the cabinet where the electric heaters use to be. This is often called ayoder loop tube SxS version and the yoder loop tube Top freezer version. This has now replaced the electric heaters. If you feel heat/hot around the door opening of your refrigerator you should....
clean the condenser coils as a dirty condenser can make the tubing hotter than normal
- check/clean & replace if necessary the condenser cooling fan   ( # F ) motor, if the condenser fan motor is slow or has quit the yoder loop pass will get very warm/hot to the touch
- If the condenser coils are clean and the condenser fan motor is running ok, check the fresh food and freezer section temperatures...if the refrigerator is not operating well and the temps inside are warming up, you could feel more heat/warmth than normal
