Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator
No airflow in unit. 10 degree difference in shelf temp vs thermostat reading. Seems to not be evenly cooling
I USUALLY REPLACE MAIN BOARD WITH EVAPORATOR FAN MOTOR AT THE SAME TIME. CHECK HOW ITS DONE ON MY YOUTUBE CHANEL. HOPE THAT WILL HELP.

Sounds like your Defrost heater is burned up. It is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the lower cover. Look at the base of the condensor. Two screws hold the heater and two wire connectors. The heater is in a glass tube. Measure continuity from one end to the other, you should see a few ohms. if it is open, your heater is definitely burned. I got a good deal on a replacement heater on Ebay. I think it was $17 including shipping. The heater being bad will cause major frost buildup in the back of the freezer and stop the Ice maker from working and damage food. Be sure to thorougly dry the freezer compartment prior to putting it back in operation. If too much moisture is present, the new heater will evaporate the moisture into the Ice dispensoer motor and solenoid that swtiches from crushed to solid ice. Hope this helps. it has nothing to do with your problem, but please Check out my website www.playstationclinic.com

Welcome to Fixya,
You said, freezer is fine the refrigerator is 50-65 does not get colder than 50.the evaporator fan is working but it seems to be blowing very little air
Have a 1998 Hotpoint Model # CTX16CAZDRAD Serial # ZS738209. The refrigerator is not cooling. Temp is at 66 degrees with setting at 5. The Freezer is working, but it seems to be running all the time. Please help!
There are a few things that come to mind!
The Freezer is working, but it seems to be running all the time, you said!.
This could be a bad thermostat!
But lets try some simple maintenance first!
Is your freezer packed too the hilt with packages???????
Where the articles cover the air vents in the freezer?
The freezer and the fridge share the cold air and the passages must not be blocking the cold air from moving out of the freezer!.Search your freezer !
Also your fridge is 10 years old!
Did you ever remove the plastic grille at the bottom of the fridge along the front, and GENTLY run a refrigerator brush along the black metal tubes running back and forth under the fridge?
( You can buy this brush at any hardware store $10.)
They must not be covered in ten years of lint and dust. These narrow tubes carry the freon and run in this parallel fashion back and forth, so they are cooled by the air being **** through them.
if not and they overheat your fridge will get warm.
If the tubes are found to be covered or submerged in dust sometimes I have found them one to two inches thick in dust, and sometimes they are even not visible until you clean the dust out.
Then it will take 10 to 24 hours for the system to get back to full working temperature again. As long as the heat did not cause permanent damage!
if these are not the answer, then you may need a hands on diagnoses!
BUT, most of the time these two things are what I find!
Let me know how it goes!!!!!!!!
Thank You for asking my advice!
Please remember to leave a rating for me!

SOURCE: not cooling
Sometimes when the evaporator fan goes out, it takes part of the motherboard also. (part number WR55X10552, which also subs into a WR55X10656) If this is the case, I would not expect the refrig to be running either. (If your compressor still runs, check door switch.)

refrigerator is not cooling properly it can be due to a defrost timer, which is
causing the fridge to go into defrost cycle. Usually it takes 45-60 minutes for
refrigerator to come out of defrost cycle. If the timer
is bad then it will not come out of defrost cycle and
can result in this kind of issues. It can also occur due to defrost thermostat,
it allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees
Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees.
This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold
temperature to turn it on. The defrost thermostat is
snapped onto the top portion of the evaporator. The thermostat sends
temperature information to the processor. The defrost heater must be replaced
when replacing the thermostat.
1. Remove the lower fan duct work from the evaporator cover.
2. Remove the 1/4-in. evaporator cover screws and remove the evaporator cover.
3. Disconnect the defrost thermostat wiring connector.
4. Remove the defrost thermostat from the evaporator.
Hope this helps...please post back for further
