SOURCE: I have a Grundig HD

There have been various FreeView updates, and sometimes some equipment gets caught out and becomes incompatible.

In some cases there are firmware updates to resolve the issue, in other cases such as a few years ago it's a hardware issue and boxes become useless.

What you have reported is a known issue affecting your box, but this kind of thing keeps happening to Bush/Goodmans/Grundig/Harvard (all the same) equipment, possibly because they aggressively source the absolute cheapest components which do the job adequately without worrying about product longevity. the average set-top decoder lasts about five years, but with budget-priced Harvard group products it would not surprise me to find that it was a lot less.

All the information I currently have indicates that the Grundig GUFSAT01HD is not compatible with DVB-S2 at the basic hardware level, but before shelling out on another box you may wish to contact their customer support directly. Their website says: "Should you need to contact our UK Helpline, call 0871 2301777, Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm. Calls from BT landlines are charged at 10p per minute, whilst calls via other service providers may vary."

Good luck.

Try undoing the satellite cable at the back of the box and put a kink in the centre wire so as to make better contact and re,screw back on., do this while the unit is turned off. We had this problem and this cured it.

Your lack of channels is from a specific group and is usually caused by poor signal from your aerial. A new larger aerial may solve that.
Freesat is OK if you have a dish installed.

How do i connect my samsung dvd recorder sh853m to my free sat box? Also is it possible to record a channel from free sat onto my samsung recorder while also watching a different free sat channel.

Hi,

If it's a Standard-Definition (SD) FreeSat box then a SCART cable would be the normal method of connection to your DVD recorder. This would connect to the SCART/EXT OUT socket on the back of the FreeSat box and the SCART/EXT IN on the DVD recorder. However, this depends on whether your FreeSat box has multiple SCART outputs and whether you are using a SCART cable to connect to the TV.

If there is no spare SCART output socket on the FreeSat box, then you need to use an alternative connection which is common to both devices, i.e. co-axial, and make sure you are connecting from an OUT socket on the FreeSat box to an IN socket on the DVD recorder.

If you have a FreeSat HD box, then you need to connect it to the DVD recorder using an HDMI cable or another cable type that will carry an HD signal.

You will only be able to record from a different Satellite channel if you have a Dual LNB with 2 feeds to the FreeSat box. The LNB is the receiver that attaches to the arm on the satellite dish. You can determine whether you have a Dual LNB as you will have 2 cables from the Dish to the FreeSat box. They may be joined as one cable, but there will be 2 F-plugs (threaded co-axial plug) on each end.

If you don't have 2 cables then you will only be able to record the same channel as you are watching. To record another channel, you need a FreeSat box that supports this feature and each channel needs also a separate feed from the dish.

Hope this helps. If you need any further assistance please post back with the brand model number of your FreeSat box and details of the connections you are using between the FreeSat box, the TV and the DVD recorder.

Regards,
BElectric

I am about to receive an LG32LF4700 Freesat/HD TV If I disconnect the SKY Box and connect the TV direct to the Dish cable will I receive Freesat HD channels. Also can I connect an extra bedroom TV into the...

Yes you can split the signal out from the back of the Freesat/HD (not the TV)to the second TV.
Look what outputs are on the Freesat box - the RF (standard cable) output should go to the 2nd TV (TV set to CH3) and the a/v cables,HDMI or DVI cable should go to the new TV - Note:To receive HD the output from the Freesat should be either HDMI,DVI or Composite output (RGB video jacks) with red White for audio. If you have HDMI this is best - it also provides audio.

Record and watch different channels with freesat

I believe that the Humax can only output 1 channel and because it has no built in hdd and twin channel capabilty that is all you can record 1 channel (unlike sky +/sky HD) so that means also that unless you watch a different source (like the picture from your aerial (terrestial channels)) you are stuck with having to watch the channel you record
