Question about IBM ThinkPad T43 Notebook

1 Answer

On my ibm thinkpad 1120 i recently installed a wifi card and wifi antennas, i tucked the wifi antennas under the side of the screen and powered it on, it worked great, later on the screen start to act werid, the colors were off and there were dots appearing on the screen, i immedialty took off the screen bezel and pulled the wifi antenna out of under the screen, 2 seconds later the screen went out, it is not the graohics card because it works fine with a external mointer, it is not the inverter or ccfl because the screen stays lit. the screen is a odd screen, the connector is on the back but on the side of it, and the connector is different from normal, could the metal on the wifi antenna have caused the screen to die ans if so, is it fixable?

That's highly unlikely that the wifi antenna caused the problem.

It's probably the lcd itself or the lcd cable.

You can get the whole lcd complete on ebay for about $30. That's probably the best route to go, otherwise you'll waste hours troubleshooting.

Install an Airport card in a G4 Tower

There are six models of Power Mac G4 computers: AGP Graphics, PCI Graphics, Gigabit Ethernet, Digital Audio, QuickSilver, and QuickSilver 2002. You cannot install an AirPort card in the Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics); the rest accept original version 1 Apple Airport cards. The card is simply inserted through an opening in the PCI card guide and seats itself into a socket on the logic board. Then you attach the loose antenna cable to the hole on the end of the Airport Card. You're done.

IBM THINKPAD T43. I can find the switch for my ibm thinkpad T43

Are you sure you have a wire card installed? If so, then try this:
  1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Click the Hardware tab and press the Device Manager button. The network card should appear under Network Adapters.
Note: If the card has a exclamation mark over a yellow background, then this is an indication that the card is experiencing a problem. Go to Driver download step 5.
  1. Verify that the radio is enabled.
It is possible to disable the transmitter of the wireless card without Device Manager showing any problems.
Note: Follow the instructions provided to enable wireless card.
    • Most wireless cards will put an icon in the system tray (the line of icons in the lower right corner of your screen). Right click this icon and it may have a menu option to enable/turn on the wireless radio.
    • Some systems come with a Wireless Radio switch to disable the wireless radios. The wireless radio switch is usually located on the front side of the machine. If you are having difficulties with wireless connections, make sure the Wireless Radio switch is set in the On position.

  2. Check for association to an Access Point.
If you double-click the previously mentioned system tray icon, the configuration utility of the wireless card will appear. This utility will be able to show the status of the wireless card, showing what channel the card is using and what signal strength is being received. It may be difficult to maintain a connection if signal strength is low due to either interference or distance. For example, interference can be caused by 2.4GHz cordless phones, other Access Points in the area, and physical structures such as load bearing walls or metal partitions.
    Note:
The utility can be used to configure the wireless card settings, but if using Windows XP Zero Configuration or Access Connections, you will need to use those programs to actually configure the wireless card as they will overwrite the setting of the utility.

Need WiFi instead of Bluetooth

You have two choices for a wireless connection, a PCMCIA card or a USB device.
My choice would be a PCMCIA card, because it frees up a USB port.
There are quite a few PCMCIA card to choose from, I favour Netgear and D-Link.
Their instructions make them easy to install and setup.
Let me know if you have problems.

Ibm thinkpad r40 windows xp-pro after formatting and re-installing the system, all updates and SPs downloaded and installed, the wireless "disappeared"! the radio led wouldn't lit, in the connection list...

if drivers installed device is looking for wifi manager which is the software package for wifi.
you can goto control panel open administrative tools select sevices and scroll to wireless zero config and press start.
this will then use windows settings.done

Wifi connection lost when power cord is connected / disconnected

in the battery management you must have selected a power plan other than maximum performance... so it would do this to reduce power consumed... put your powerplan in maximum performance to resolve this...
