Faint screen Hi, The laptop was dropped and since i have a very faint screen. I have changed the Inverter, the screen/backing light and still have the same issue. If i use the FN key and F4 my screen works for 2 seconds (full color/picture) then goes back to being faint again! Anyone know why this happens or any solution?

Try using an external screen. If that is OK, replace the screen as there may be a hairline crack on the driver boards.

Testimonial: "External screen works fine, already changed Screen and inverter. still left with some problem. Gives me normal screen (for 2 seconds) after i bring the laptop back from hibanation using the power button."

SOURCE: Function Buttons are not working in conjunction with (FN) Key for Screen light adjustment and other features.

As far I know FN keys are related with specific motherboard drivers.
Thoshiba recovery cd/dvd during restore/re-install, loads all toshiba drivers and utilities for operating fn keys.
If the operative system loaded in the laptop is no OEM then you will have this problem, and in order to fix it you must:
First install the operative system (clean install)
Second install: chipset drivers. This drivers instructs the operative system how to detect specific hardware. Must be installed in first order.
Third: install drivers (ethernet card, audio, video controller, toshiba utilities, etc). At this point verify all FN keys ( check display settings, stand by/ hybernation, etc).
four: Load all software needed (microsoft office, etc).

I hope this help to solve your problem

I have a new A505 also. Mine does the same thing. It is normal operation for your operating system. This is part of the startup process for Windows. Don't worry as long as all your programs are operating correctly.

Have power but no Display

Bonnin, Can you see a faint image on the screen? Have you tried to hookup an external monitor?
IF you can see a faint image on the screen, and a normal image on the external monitor, you have a bad power inverter (for the lcd screen) or a bad back light (in the lcd screen).
Take laptop to a shop to have them verify.
Hope this helps.

A125 monitor is dark

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Laptop screen is very dim. There is a very faint image. The LCD screen is brand new so that's not the problem

Hello,

As per your description, it is probably your inverter which is faulty.

The inverter is an electrical device which 'lits' the LCD. Without the inverter and the bulbs it powers, the screen would be too faint to be seen correctly.

To test if the inverter is defective, just turn on your laptop in a dark space, then put a flashlight on the screen to see if you have a fainted display. If you can see something, it is the inverter which is defective and should be replaced.

If you are handy, you can also remove the screen cover to see if there is a neon like light which lits up behind the LCD. If you can see the light, it means that the inverter is just working fine and that the is with the LCD itself, but if there is no light coming from behind the LCD, then you need to replace the inverter.

Replacing the inverter:

1. After removing the screen 'cover', locate a small circuit board (usually below the LCD). Unplug the electrical cables and replace.

Hope this posts helps you.

Screen is not lighting while laptop is running.

Hook a spare monitor to the video output on the back of the laptop, if okay it means the video card is working fine. The problem is a bad inverter board, "located under the LCD display" or the back light is defective behind the screen, "usually means a screen replacement"

Compaq presario cq61 screen went dark but can still see window faintly through the dark sreen.

Look at the LCD screen very closely and check if you can see a faint image on the screen. It's possible that the LCD lid close switch stuck in the "closed" position and the back-light stays off even when you open the LCD screen or turn on the laptop. The switch turns off the back-light when you close the LCD display to save the laptop battery power.

If no luck, try to remove battery and drain the power, then replace battery and turn on.

If that didn't fix it then there are 3 things that could have gone wrong:

1. Video cable connection from inverter to LCD got loose. To check this, follow instructions from step 3 on how to open the LCD and check if cable is fitted properly.

2. The video inverter is faulty
The screen inverter failure is very similar to the back-light lamp failure. In both cases the screen gets very dark and the image on the screen becomes very faint, barely visible under a bright light. If it's still under warranty, take it for a replacement. You can replace this otherwise - you can find the inverter under the screen, follow the procedure described at point 3 to open up the screen.

3. The LCD monitor is faulty
If it works on an external monitor most likely the LCD is faulty and needs replacement. If it's still under warranty, take it for a replacement. If not, you can do it yourself, it's pretty easy. Remove the rubber covers on the side of the screen, unscrew the screws take the plastic cover off, disconnect the video inverter and put in the new LCD after you connect the video inverter to it.

I need help with my acer (Backlight?)

Hi

Thank you for your query

The problem you are describing, is indicating that the inverter board on the laptop has become faulty.

The inverter board is responsible for tking the 12V current and then beefing it up to light up the LCD screen.

As you can imagine if the board were to the blow, then the screen wouldnt light up and thus it would be very faint i.e. to what you are seeing now

The inverter boards are cheap themsleves and you can pick one up from Ebay used or brand new.

I would then recommned that you then book the laptop into a reputable PC shop for replacement, as I dont recommend that you do the work yourself

MONITOR ONLY HAS FAINT IMAGE, COMPUTER WORKS WITH EXTERNAL MONITOR, HAVE REPLACED SCREEN TWICE AND INVERTER BOARD TWICE, NO LUCK--OTHER SUGGESTIONS?

When you have a faint image, it means that the backlights are not turning on, most of the time, its the inverter not supplying power to the lights.
My suggestion is to take a volt meter and test the voltage going to the inverter. I can not tell you what it should be, but you should have voltage more than 5 volts going to it. Its very possible that if you changed the inverter and the screen, that the main board is not supplying enough power.

thanks adi

Screen is black and light is blinking. I tried

Can you see a faint image on the screen, if so your back light is failing. If you cant even see a faint image and is flickering then the inverter board is faulty and needs to be changed. You can search the internet by doing a google search for the make and model of your monitor and find spares, there should be some good videos on youtube on how to change the inverter.

Dell inspiron 5150 dark screen, faint image in background

If it showed a pinkish tint on the screen before it went out it could be the backlite. If you can see a faint screen when you turn the room lights out it chuld be the inverter. Inverters are cheap ... a used one for around $8 on ebay. Try that first. Make sure that you buy the EXACT model that is presently in your laptop.
