Question about Nikon SLR D80 Digital SLR Camera Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a Nikon D80 SLR camera, and have purchased an Opteka 650 x 1300 mm zoom lens (fit on). I have changed the setting on the camera to manual, and it will now take photographs, however the images are very dark. Can you advise, as very limited instructions arrived with the lens. Thanks Bill

You can't meter through that lens. If the images are too dark, either slow down the shutter speed or open the aperture. Keep going until the picture looks okay on the monitor. If you know how to use the histogram, that's even better. If you go too far and get images too light, reverse the process (faster shutter speed or smaller aperture).

If you have another light meter, you can use that to get a ballpark exposure to start with. Alternatively, take a reading with your other lens at the longest zoom.

My opteka zoom lens is not recognized by my Nikon d300

First, make sure that you have the right adapter to couple this lens to your Nikon. A universal adapter may actually fit and properly click into place but the electrical contacts may not match your Nikon. Make sure the electrical contacts on the adapter match the contacts on the camera body.

If they don't match, get an adapter specifically for Nikon and perhaps, specifically for your camera.

Once you have verified that it is a Nikon adapter, you need to make sure the electrical contacts between the adapter and the camera body are clean. Many people clean the contacts by holding the lens release button down and twisting the lens or in this case, the adapter, on and off ten or more times.

If neither of these options work you may need to contact Opteka, Nikon or both.

Need lens (up to 200)

Lens needs are determined by the type of photography one shoots. Example, for my needs I use three prime lens, 35 mm, 50 mm, and 100 mm. Sold all my zoom lens purchased primes.

The question is what are you attempting to capture? On a zoom lens look towards a constant aperture, not one when we zoom the aperture changes.

Hi, can tell to me why my 18-200 af vr lenss go

The "problem" is that the lens has a zoom creep issue. If you are the original purchaser, and the lens is under 5 years old, you may want to contact Nikon repair facilites in Melville or El Segundo to have it checked out.
Some users on forums have claimed that Nikon fixed the plastics ring that contribute to the zoom creep. Apparently, using a rubber band around the zoom ring will minimize the problem.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

Can i use a Quantray AF LD 70-300 mm lens with my nikon d80? Thanks.

That depends. If the Quantaray lens has a Nikon mount, then yes, no problem, it'll work on the D80. If it has a different mount, then it won't fit onto the D80.

M (Manual).

You won't get autofocus, nor will you get any metering. It's completely manual.

Auto focus on my SLR doesn't work

I have this same lens and it focuses at all focal lengths and with all settings except :"manual." Be sure that the setting switch on the lens itself is not set to "M" (manual).
