You need to look at the wiring block. Check for 12v source at the red/white wires with the key switch on. The red/white wires are always hot with the key on. If not check your key switch.the quick connect at the kill switch/reverse override box .Also check the power to spark plugs. The spark plugs get power from coils to spark. If there is no power to spark plugs and coils are ok then its faulty spark plugs it self or faulty connection between spark plug to coil pack. try unplugging the black wire from the CDI .Then check. If still no spark then its faulty cdi.Get it checked. Also check if there is gap got created between between the floorboard and the clutch cover . the covers sometimes will sag or melt a bit and get against the drive clutch or the transmission pulley.
causing it to drag when you try to start it. that could be the problem.
also look for any wires that may be resting against the cover.
you may have a short that makes contact and by moving the cover you move the wire.
the clutch runs independantly of the transmission.
once you give it gas the engine spins faster and the clutch draws in tight against the belt causing the transmission to turn.

the clutch and the crank are balanced together.

you could yank the cover and make sure there is no visible damage to the clutch itself.
Also check the motor mounts. They aren't very large and wear out easily letting the engine sag and could cause it to get against the clutch cover. But also because moving the cover moves the engine a littls it could be a loose connection. If it starts by lifting the cover, get down and lift the cover and look to see what is moving around the engine when it moves. check all of your wire connections. The other thing to check is,that check that fuel is flowing freely and running properly through the pump.If its low if no fuel running to the pump then its the cause of faulty fuel pump or fuel blockage.Get it checked and cleared.
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

2005 polaris 550 classic left cylinder not firing

Hopefully it's just the spark plug, take it out and check the gap and coloring, clean it and set the gap to the recommended gap, Or take note of the spark plug code and get a new one, check with the manufacturer or in your handbook that it is in fact the correct one.

Check the connections and lead, they do deteriorate over time, to find out if your on the right track, swap the leads over and see if the other cylinder dose the same thing. Swap the spark plug over from the other cylinder for process of elimination. So if it's still missing we know to check the pickups or cdi unit, there's a possibility its fuel, check the carburetor, is it a twin carb? If so, clean it buy taking the bowl of and draining out the fuel, you should do this occasionally anyway. Check the fuel filter while you're at it.
Good luck

Theres no spark in my spark plug on my trail boss 330 2004

I would start by checking your coils, the primary resistance should read 0.5 ohms the coil secondary resistance ( spark plug removed) 6400 ohms then if thats good check thepulse coil air gap 0.016 to 0.030 inch and the pulse coil resistance white/red to white 522 ohms and white/red to ground inifinity ohms and your spark plug cap resistance 5000 ohms. In the mix of all this I would also check that all the connections are tight. Good luck.

I had a simular problem with my 99 sportsman 500 and it turned out to be my pulse coil somehow became out of alinement. The pulse coil air gap should be between0.016 to 0.040 inch, But I would start by checking the coil it should read 0.3 to 0.5 ohms. Good luck and hope this helps

My Polaris freedom(jet ski) starts and runs good

Tools(1) A compression gauge (2) a spark gap tester.(3) A Clymer service manual for your engine. (you can purchase from your local dealer. I know all these are expensive but if your going to be a polaris tech you will always need them. Troubleshooting (1) check compression. Look at your Clymer manual for specific psi.all cylinders need to be over 100 lbs and equal each other within 5 lbs.(2) check spark. use a spark gap tester all cylinders should jump a half inch gap. if you have good compression and good spark, fuel is the problem nine
times out of ten.Ethanol gas is proven to stay stable in fuel systems for only 30 days in 90 + degree heat. Drain gas tank, clean fuel lines replace and replace all fuel filters. Polaris has a gravity filter under seat, clean it. Finally replace spark plugs, I know spark plugs probably don't look bad but this is a C.D.ignition. Fresh spark plugs means less resistance for the ignition system. The ignition system is week compared to automotive. Test drive polaris, if the problem is still there then there is further steps to take. If your polaris is fuel injected. Pull out your clymer manual. what is great about the Clymer Manual for Novice techs is it gives detailed info on your polaris. Troubleshooting tips and teaches you how your polaris works. If its carburetor then you should clean carburetors. Inside the carbs is another filter that needs to be cleaned. Its not difficult you just make sure you put everything back in proper order. take pictures if you need to.
