Hey there,
You just need to sync your controller with your ps3. To do so, use the USB cable that plugs into the controller and into a usb port of your ps3.
You will then be able to start your ps3 and push that ps3 button on your controller, once the ps3 has started, and you'll be good to go.
sounds like the resolution is not set correctly on your tv or your ps3 settings. make sure they both are set to 720i to start, if you have a HDMI cable, that should be the min resolution your tv will do.
Find out the max resolution your tv can do, and set the ps3 to output that.
I had this problem before. I messed with the settings on my PS3 and My TV until the settings matched. My PS3 would show the home until I loaded a game. I turned off then on my PS3 to get to the settings. My TV manual had the types of videos it supported so I went with the second to highest setting it supported and it worked. Hope this helps.
There is nothing wrong with the PS3. I read in the users manual that
when the the green light on the PS3 turns yellow or flashes yellow the
PS3 is too hot and you need to turn it off. It has never happened to me
because I keep my PS3 in a open area.
When the PS3 gets to hot you need to let it sit and cool for a little
while and then you can turn it back on and start playing again. If the
PS3 cools for a while and it still doesn't work you need to call Sony.
