Question about Panasonic DMR-ES30VS DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Panasonic DMR-ES30V After recording on a DVD-R disc, after the disc became full I finalized it. After the DVD finished finalizing I received a message that the disc is "Unsupported" and not compatible. How can this be? I am attempting to play it on the same machine that it was recorded on. In the past if I tried to used a disc that was not compatible it wouldn't allow me to record on it. I tried to play it on a different machine and it won't read it. Can you tell me what's going on and if there is any thing that I can do to try and retrieve what's on the DVD?

Re: Panasonic DMR-ES30V

I have three Panasonic DVD recorder/Vhs combos and I get the same problem from time to may be the disks you are using.  Mine absolutely hate Sony disks.  I have the best luck with TDK or Maxell.  You also must clean your unit frequently, if you do alot of recording.  I use my units daily.

Hope this helps

Dmr-ES30V Dvd plays pre record movies fine but I

Try a different brand of blank dvd+r or -r. you will find that your dvd machine is fussy on what discs it plays. More exspensive dvd players are fussy with what dvd discs you put in, as cheaper dvd players would virtualy play most types of dvds.

My Dad recorded all his VHS tapes and made DVD's on the Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V and now they wont play on any DVD player except for the DMR-ES30V. I believe he recoreded them with a lock so they...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

My compliments to the foresight of your father. Your described concern is not caused by a "lock". It is indicative that the recording session was not 100% completed. Rather than 'crack', what is required is the final step in the recording. All the DVDs must be "finalized" in the same machine that recorded the movies, the Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V. The finalize option would be in the MENU/Settings and must be enabled. Finalization per disc would take some time.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Since both are record capable:
  • hook the Video and Left/Right Audio OUT of the DMR-ES30V to one of the composite/matching INPUT of the DMR-EX88;
  • use the DMR-ES30V as a player and the DMR-EX88;
  • to be able to watch and monitor the output, temporarily hook up the OUTPUT of the DMR-EX88 to the INPUT of the TV.

Will my non finalzied discs play on a panasonic ez 28 or ex 768

You will have no problem playing your non finalized discs on any of the Panasonic DMR range including the DMR EZ28 series. The DMR E55 can also easily be repaired if you can use a soldering iron and a little care. Please checkout my other postings for full repair details.

Panasonic DVD player won't finalize

You can try a dvd+r disc. Borrow one before buying a stack of them.

The other thing is that you may not have enough free space left to burn the finalization track; 7 1/2 hours is a lot of recordings.

Give the +R disc a try even though it says it can't use them in your documentation, a lot of users report it works anyway.

Please don't forget to rate all of our solutions here on the board. Thanks.

VHS record to DVD

Insert the VHS and rewind or fast forward to the point you want to begin copying from.
Insert the disc you plan to use and format it if necessary. It will usually prompt you if it is necessary to do so.
Put the television on the channel or input needed to view the recorder on-screen.
Select the DVD drive and set the record mode you prefer - XP, SP, LP or EP.
There are two things you can do:
1. Press and hold the dubbing/copying button on the recorder itself in the direction of the DVD for 3 seconds. If you are using a DVD-R/RW or +R you will receive a message stating to press Play to record without finalizing or press Record to record and finalize. If you are using +RW or -RAM, these cannot be finalized - therefore this message will not display.
2. You can access the Functions menu and go to Copy, then select the copy direction VHS to DCD and select Start Copying.
