HP Pavilion z1420n won't even boot into CMOS

HI... I can't seem to get my Pavilion a1420n to boot into CMOS... Last week I was given this PC from a friend who said it was fine but had some sort of virus or OS problem.... Explorer.exe keep reloading... I think it was caused by a virus which corrupted one component of the OS which explorer was trying to load... anyway, to make a long story short, I tried reinstalling XP onto the machine and part way through the install, the computer spits out the CD and tells me that my copy of XP is corrupt and can not continue to be loaded.... so I turned off the machine and proceeded to dig out my boot CD and try an install of another copy of XP...(different disc). To my great befuddlement the PC won't even boot into the CMOS. I'm not sure whether this has become a hardware issue or a software issue... I would replace the HD if that was the problem, however I fear it is worse than this due to the fact that I can't even get the CMOS to load up... my monitor stays blank... and I've checked the monitor's connections just in case that's where the issue lies... So I'm sure it's got to do with either the memory being corrupt or the board is somehow screwed up enough that CMOS won't even work....

Please inform me of what you think might be the issue and a route to solve the problem if you know of one.

Thanks.

Hello I have a hp pavilion p6000 series, and everytimei try turning it on it won't boot up the monitor?

If the monitor is not booting up than may be there is display problem on the mother board. Replace the CMOS battery of the motherboard and then check. If this solution not work then there is technical problem in the motherboard which will get fixed only by expert motherboard repair technician.

It seems there is no booting as the memory is not responding or the hard disc is not booting up. Please check on the back up CMOS button cell battery on the back side of the laptop. replace if the voltage is low.
Also remove and reset the memory, if not you need to take consensus to know if this can be the hard disc, memory or the motherboard.

had a similar problem, and I resoleved it via a bios flash..this allowed the hardware to be fully recognized and to perform the specified role. For some reason, the bios software for this version seems to corrupt after several years. I have had my machine for the last four years..until it recently started giving the issues,it had no problems.

Hi,

are you using a usb keyboard? A lot of systems require a ps/2 (purple round connector) keyboard to access the bios settings and anything on the startup screen unless you have set usb on boot in the bios settings. I would try connecting a ps/2 keyboard and see if it helps.

I just formatted my HP Pavillion a1420n, and audio drivers did not install, I have no clue what drivers I need nor where to find them. Thank you for your time

If you open your Start Menu and go to Settings>Control Panel>System and then click on the tab labeled "Hardware" you will see an alphabetical listing of your device's components. Select "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" and then right-click on it and select "Scan For Hardware Changes." This should get you on the road, and direct you how to re-install your drivers. Good luck!
