You should go online and download the updated Driver for the orbicam (google on orbicam). Reinstall it, restart the computer, and then try the cam again. There may be something in Skype that helps config your cam.
First, try uninstalling your cam through the hardware manager, reboot and let it re-install it. The orbicam has had issues for quite some time on Acer's PC's. I've never been able to use mine for more than about 2-3 months without having something happen with it.
You can also go to Acer's website and download the current/newest cam driver for your computer.
Checked if your orbicam is in device manager (under imaging device),
if it still there, you might have wrong orbicam application installed. try to download the orbicam application, there are 3 type of orbicam for Aspire 5050 (suyin, bison and logitech). try to installed one by one.
or if you can try to reload the whole windows, using alt+f10 during boot.
