Usually this becomes an issue when the cord rewinder is replaced, but the same applies when the motor is replaced as the rewinder sits on the back of the motor housing. There are two electical connections on the back of the rewinder. As the wires are exact length it is difficult to attach them to the wrong spot. The one the majority of people miss is the one at the bottom of the rewinder. It is a wide terminal with a narrower tip. The wide portion has to fit through the fitting at the back and bottom of the motor. Then the 2 piggy back wires should be slid onto the narrow part. If you just slip the piggy back wires on, the temperature light will come on and the machine will only run if it happens to the touching the electrical fitting to the motor. Great way to have a fire!

If you replaced it yourself with an original motor you have the thermal temp wire crossed over inside the body housing.
This canister has a VERY specific almost foolproof harness. If you look carefully at the wires the only reach to their exact spot with minimal slack.

Check for blockage in the hose or the sweeper. Check the filter located under the grill on the top back of the machine.

Electrolux Epic Series 6500 SR. The machine is 15 yr. old & is working beautifully. However, when operating it emits a terrible stink, like cat *****. I've changed bags & filters but no ch

You need to have the vacuum cleaned out. If you are good with tools, just remove the motor and fans assembly, take the fans off and wash them. Brush ALL dirt out of the housing and reassemble. Your Electrolux dealer can do this but it isn't cheap. I used to be the service manager for my area. Since it isn't under warranty, you can have ANY reliable vacuum cleaner shop give a good cleanout. NEVER put anything into the cleaner to make it smell good. Electrolux cleaners get their power by having a straight through suction. The air goes through the motor. Adding smelly things can crystallize onto the motor and burn it out.

Does the epic 6500 sr have to have a bag in it to start?

Yes, you must have a bag in it for it to run. This is a protection feature so that the motor isn't damaged. You can bypass it just to see if it runs by depressing the small button in the lower front right hand corner of the bag housing. If you open the front, you should see it. Just press it while the machine is switched to "on", and it should come on. Good Luck, and great buy!!

Repair manual for Electrolux EPIC 6500 SR

I don't have a manual for these but the trickiest thing about these units is taking them apart. If you have an Aerus/Electrolux dealer near you, it's not a bad investment to have them install the motor for you. You would probably receive a warranty with the work, and the things a long time. Great return on investment. But if you are determined to do it yourself, open the front of the canister and remove the bag. As you are looking at the front of the unit, there are two vinyl coverd strips that run the length of the unit. Pull forward on these strips and then pull out so that the vinyl seperates from the plastic underneath. Now grab the plastic strip with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull towards the front of the canister. These can be tough if the machine has never been opened up before, but pull as hard as you need to, to slide the strip out. Once both strips are out, turn the machine over, pull out on the sides of the bottom of the unit, and lift up. The bottom should come of relatively easily, and eveything will be exposed. Good Luck!!
