Never twist the piston ring. Pull it straight apart. This will insure the ring will seat properly.

My paslode im90i wont reset

Not sure what you mean by reset. If piston driver is not returning this could be caused by a trapped/jammed nail or a damaged O ring quite often the one on the cylinder head. If gun has not been serviced for a while dirt may build up not allowing an adequate seal to be made. In this case clean gun thoroughly with brake cleaner paying attention to area where combustion chamber meets cylinder head also sleeve and piston ensuring the piston rings are not stuck in piston. After cleaning smear a thin coat of oil in the sleeve before putting piston back. DO NOT regularly oil these guns as the gas cell contains a lubricant.

Engine rebuild

Bummer. Usually you need to drop the oil pan, pull the rod and piston out, replace the sleeve, and use a ring comprssor to get the piston back into the cylinder and then put it all back together EXACTLY how it came apart including position on the sleeves, rods and bearings. I have not done this on a VW but I do not see this being much different than any other car that I have worked on. No matter what it will be a huge pain in the ***.

Well, if you want it to last, bore it out to the next available size, and get new pistons and rings.
The reason is that the cylinder becomes tapered and ob longed where the piston works. Not a huge deal until you think about the rings. The rings have to expand and contract each time the piston travels. This makes short engine life. What happens next is compression loss and oil consumption.
Sleeving? maybe, but as a last resort.

I like that your cylinders have been heated, through normal use. Now if you machine that, you have a very stable (read long life) machine when you\'re done.

I just put a repair kit in my sx150 stapler and it fires put will not recoil i think im missing a spring in the bottom of the piston cylinder?

The Bostitch SX150 pneumatic brad nailer/stapler uses air to both drive the brad or staple and to return the driver/piston assembly to the top of the gun for the next firing. There is no spring that goes into the sleeve or under the piston. If your driver is not returning to the top of the gun you may have put an o-ring or seal in the wrong place or left one out. The o-rings and check seal on the bottom half of the driver sleeve are what control the air that returns the piston to the top so check those first.

I am replacing the cylinder sleeve and compression ring on my Craftsman air compressor model 919165020. Searspartsdirect says that I need two compression rings. Is this right? My compressor only had one...

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Air-compressor-Parts/Model-919165020/0247/0703000 This is the exploded view that I used.

67 head 65 gasket 64 reed valve plate 63 ring, this one goes under the reed valve plate 62 screw that goes thru the 61 piston 60is a ring that sets on the top of the connecting rod screw the piston with the ring into the top of the connecting rod then take the connecting rod end cap off and cover the studs with some rubber tubing. This will protect the crankshaft when you push connecting rod and piston assembly in to the sleeve that is seated in the block. The ring should be flexible enough to push into the sleeve,if not a bit of oil should help.Guide the connecting rod on to the the crank shaft.I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.com

I'm fixing my engine with new rings but rings have not fitted and yet the block has not expanded, the spare parts show the same engine no. what can i do. I'm so desperate?

your replacing the piston rings? are you using a spring compressor? when you compress the rings and set the piston down in there sleeves make sure to oil the cylinders the with the rings compressed and staggered gently tap the top of the piston with the wooden handle of a hammer. when i say stagger i mean the gaps in each ring are in a different position so as not to create a bypass of pressure or oil. if you use the compressor the piston should slide into the sleeve of the cylinder

My Porter Cable FN250A only shoots nails sporadically. When I lift up the nose piece, it appears that the "hammer" is not fully retracting.

Piston not retracting is caused by several issues. Bent or broken driver, worn piston oring or loose or broken check seal. Remove head and examine driver for bent or broken, adjust as needed. Check that piston oring fits snug, piston should not drop down cylinder under its own weight. Pull cylinder from body and check that black band (check seal) is in place around holes in cylinder. Good luck

How do I get to the piston rings on a 1981 honda xl 500 off

the cylinder will slide off the top of the piston, then you can replace the rings and slide the cylinder back down over the top of the piston. The bottom edge of the cylinder sleeve should have a small chamfer in it to aid in getting the rings into the cylinder.

Porter Cable 2 inch brad nailer piston does not return

Hi,
Sounds like the cylinder check seal. That`s the o`ring on the outside of the cylinder sleeve. With little holes in the groove. You have to remove cylinder sleeve to get to it.
Thanks,
Jeff
