Hi i never worked on it but i would try to Dryglide special product easy up open and close windows and so spry on the edges and see maybe the mechanism is going stiff and force to open u buy Dryglide from Repco good luck
I had the same problem on my '96. After exhausting all avenues, forums, DYI pages, etc., I learned the motor had to be disconnected, then the moon roof clossed manually. It is not airtight, but it doesn't leak. I plan to replace the motor in the spring. Wish me luck.
your moon roof needs to be lubricated. go to any auto parts store and get a can of WD40 with a tiny plastic tube attached. have one person on the outside with the can and another on the inside with some paper towels or a cloth. Carefully spray WD40 into the track and let it sit overnight. Then try moving the window. Repeat until it moves properly.
Hi, we also have a 2002 Toyota Rav4 and developed a leak in the front driver's side of the car. After much research, we discovered that the drain wells from our sun/moon roof were clogged. If you have one of these, I suggest that you open the sun roof and look carefully. You will notice some tiny little holes in front and in the rear of the sun/moon roof tracks. Over time, these become clogged with dust and debris. You need to find a long, sturdy piece of thin wire and run it down the holes. To test if you have properly unclogged these, take a small amount of water and pour it down the holes. You should see water coming out of the drain wells under the car around the rear of the front tires. Hope this helps.
I had this, there are two small brackets along the rails ( L shape about 3/4" long). on mine, one of them fell preventing it from closing. I reached and felt the loose part on top of headboard leaning againts the the side of the body. Goodluck
Any leaks past the sun roof should be channeld to and down the drains. There are four drains.I would open the roof and pour some water in the track and make sure it all drains
