Windows will not start with a Toshiba external hard drive plugged into USB

Computer starts normally in windows with a windows that is installed on a hard disk on that copmuter. In other words - windows is installed on an internal hard disk of a computer A. If you get it out and put in a computer B it wont work.

To have the things work:
1. First should set in BIOS boot up options first boot device CD/DVD, second OTHER/USB/EXTERNAL, third HDD
2. Should boot up from a CD and install windows on an external hard disk (in your case your 3TB Toshiba external HD)
3. Set in BIOS boot up options first boot device OTHER/USB/EXTERNAL, second internal hard disk e.g. HDD0, HDD1

I can't boot from the Internal, or via an External USB connected \r\noptical drive? Any suggestions? Is a boot via a Flash drive possible on the PCG-K45? Many thanks for any input...

hello, have you tried changing device boot orderfrom BIOS?
you should change device boot order or press the appropriate button (commonly F10) during POST (when laptop starts to initialy work, it writes which button the first 5seconds that it starts to work) and then you will see a box that shows all the availiable devices to try to boot from. All computers and laptops can boot from any internal or usb if these devices work properly and have a proper image to boot from.

There must be a corrupted software drivers.

For quick solution tried to boot in safemode then perform system restore, if it doesn't work tried to restore the last known good configuration.

  3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
  4. Once your on the Windows desktop, click on Start>All Programs>Accesories>System Tools then select System restore
  5. Choose the recent date or restore point that your computer is working fine.

I am using to reinstall a window from recoveru disk which i made when i buy Acer Aspire 5610. It start from the begining that code 0xa000000c. What shoult I do PLz

it wont work...(recovery CDs mostly dont work)
you need to have a WinXP boot and install CD...as many system files of windows are not re-installed by the recovery cD

get a Win XP CD(a bootable one)...i.e. original WindowsCD(even a pirated CD may work)
insert the CD in the CD drive and re-start the PC....(BIOS) must have boot seq set to CD ROM as the 1st boot drive...(if not then do it)...press F2, Del, or F10 key when PC starts...go to the boot menu and chose the boot seq and select CD ROM as the 1st boot drive...then save and restart....
let it boot from CD...
now you can repair the OS

Cant boot up

There could be several reason for not able to boot up.

1. the power to the unit is not there
2. the monitor is not working so you cannot see anything on the screen and believe it is not booting up.
3. the hard drive is faulty and therefore the system cannot boot.

If you believe 1 and 2 are not the cause and assuming the keyboard is working, then press F1 or F2 immediately when the bootup starts. This will take the system to BIOS setup. Choose boot sequence to boot from CD (or floppy if you have drive). Next insert Windows CD into the CD drive and exit and save BIOS setting. When the boot sequence starts it should boot from CD.

IF this fails then the motherboard is faulty. If it works (ie. it boots from CD) then the hard disk is faulty.

Please rate this solution to help fixya serve you better in future.

The labtop doesnt work i dont know why when it starts it's showing me the blue screen then keep restrating.

what is the error message when you get the blue screen... you may also try tapping the f8 key as it boots and in that menu boot to safe mode.... if that works fine try booting the computer again... if it does not boot again and tap f8 again.... the boot to last known good configuration.

that's a start.
