This is a common problem on a faulty Mainboard of a Projector.
Not much you can do about it except repair or replace the Mainboard

to adjust those mirrors, you need to power down, unplug, remove the top, remove the wires from the main board, remove the main board, adjust one mirror, reinstall everything, power up, see whatever difference it made, power down and repeat until it's fixed. it's quite a chore. if that's not the problem, you'll need to replace the optical engine (which isn't cheap) because they don't sell individual parts.

This likely a conncetion problem between the main board and the light engine. The added weight could be making the connection complete. You could open the projector and remove the ballast, power input board, and shield to remove the main board and clean the part that connects it to the bottom of the rear of the engine and then reseat the connection, BUT, this is a major task if you don't know what you are doing and is best left to a tech or living with the weight being on the unit.
