You can try checking after connecting an external monitor and if the external monitor also has the green thing then update the graphics driver and if it does not then it is an issue with the screen which needs replacement or repair :(

Imedia s3210 I disconnected it and can't remember where to put leads

It's pretty easy: Just look at:

Every cable has it's own coloured connector. For the black boxy USB connectors (in the middle), it doesn't matter which one of the same type connector you use, they're all the same.

Your mouse and keyboard could be the purple and green round connectors at the top, or one of the black boxy connectors in the middle.

Your sound-connectors are the round ones in the lower-middle. When you look close you'll also see an small icon just below it (speaker, mic, etc...). If you only have 1 cable and stereo speakers, it's probably the middle green one.

Your network cable (if you have one), is the bigger single black boxy connector in the middle. For wireless networks (if applicable), you'll probably have a WiFi USB adapter/dongle, which goes into one of the black boxy USB connectors,

Your video/monitor cable is either blue (try either one of those, it's most likely the one at the bottom, but when that doesn't work try the upper one), or white; In that case it's the bottom white one. Finally, but a little unlikelier, it could be the small black one in the middle between the blue and white, or when that doesnt work; the orange one with the big 'HDMI' next to it.

And finally, the power is the big one on the right.

PS: The red one is for a specific type of external HDD driver and is not that commonly used.

Green light flashes 9 times will not go

Hi. Different brands of controllers give different fault codes. If this is a dynamic controller, 9 flashes is the code for a faulty controller. This does not always mean that the controller is actually at fault.
It could be a burn't out brake solenoid, that now has a different resistance through the solenoid coil.
You mention the middle speed green light is flashing, normally on dynamic controllers, it is the most left battery level LED that flashes. You might have a different controller.
Have a look under the panels and let us know what controller your machine has.
You could try the agents, and see if they can tell you what the problem is.
Good luck. Neil.

Where is cmos battery located in Dell d505?

It's called the Reserve Battery in a Dell Latitude D505.
(It's also called an RTC battery in others, {Real Time Clock battery}, and CMOS battery in older laptops)

1.Remove the AC adapter if plugged in. (Charger)

2.Remove the Battery.

3.Right up against the outside edge of the battery compartment, in the middle. you will see the battery latch.

Push it down. The Reserve Battery Cover will come loose at the top. Rotate the top, towards the inside of the battery compartment.
The Reserve Battery is right there.

Pull the Reserve Battery towards the battery compartment.
(Comes right out of the small rectangular compartment it is in)

(It looks like three round coins put side by side, and has a green plastic coating around it.

In actuality, there are coin sized watch batteries inside that green plastic cover)

You will see a Red wire, and a Black wire twisted together, that go to a small white connector. The connector is two piece. Separate the connector, and you can take the Reserve Battery out.

Resistors and capacitors

Resistors are usually cylindrical, depressed in the middle and have three coloured rings (sometimes 4) around it to show the resistance value (but they do come in other shapes as well). The leads are generally on the base, one on each end. They are usually placed length-wise on the board. Here is a sample pic:
Capacitors, on the other had, are usually cylindrical all the way through and are encircled by a plastic sheath. Sometimes they look like small rectangualr compressed boxes. The leads are usually both at the base end on one end only. The top or cap is usually visible and point upwards from the board. They have their values usually printed on the plastic sheathing.
Here's a sample pic or two:
Here is a LINK that will give you more info, if you wish.

Hope that helps, and dont forget a Fixya rating!
