Question about ASUS P4PE-BP Motherboard

1 Answer

I realized I need an AGP to connect a monitor to my Asus P4PE-BP. Will AGP 8X work. Specs call for AGP 4X.

I found the new Black Pearl MoBo at a thrift store for $5.99. Having fun piecing together to make a nice Graphics/cloud rig to edit and archive photos with the free Adobe CS-2 suite. Will try Linux on it and isolate this from the WEB. Using a Toshiba Laptop $10 on Craigs list that I combined parts from a Dell Inspiration Lap top for my surfing machine. I'll end up with 4 working computers and will probably get an 8" tablet soon. When will it stop? Jerry

The 8x AGP cards will work in the 4x slot. But the 8x AGP card will lose about 1% to 2% of its performance.

SOURCE: Asus P4pE not booting

See the power / restart button is jammed. Many times this happens simply because the restart button jammed and kept pressed. You can try removing restart connector which is coming from the front panel.

SOURCE: system doesn't see AGP card

Hi Flaxx,
i,m glad you got some help with this problem.
This all sounds very sophisticated and Technical. Surely you should be able to enter the system Bios, and change the settings to boot From The AGP Card First Rather Than The PCI Card. Or alternatively consider that you may have a faulty AGP Card or AGP motherboard Slot.
Finally is there Any Onboard Jumpers to Set ??

Good luck mike @ compurepair.

Problem with AGP, in the specs, 2x / 4x AGP, but in the bios I can only choose 1x / 2x.

According to these mobo specs that board will do AGP 2X up to 533MB / sec and AGP 4X up to 1066MB/sec.

Here is the link to your mobo manual.

Will a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 video card work on a P4B533-E motherboard?

HI Lau_kua08,

First off, your motherboard is a AGP 4x slot, and the Card is a AGP 8X card. However, NVIDIA based graphic cards which support AGP 8x mode (Accelerated Graphics Port) follow the AGP 3.0 specification. The AGP 3.0 specification retains backwards compatibility with older AGP 4x technology. All NVIDIA Geforce and Quadro GPU's which support AGP 8x mode are downwards compatible with AGP 4x motherboards. When a graphics card which operates at AGP 8x mode is installed on a motherboard which only supports up to AGP 4x mode, the card will automatically switch to AGP 4x operation.

So, yes it will work.

Good Luck,

Mark

What is the operating voltage of an 'ASUS nvida geforce4 mmx440 ddr 8x 64mb AGP video card' and wiil it work on a ASUS A7N8X-X MOBO

Your voltage shouldn't matter really. That mobo comes with an 8x AGP slot and those are standardized for a reason. So, to answer your second question, yes that video card should work on that motherboard just fine.

Looking to upgrade video. is there a limit to uprade old mboard

Only cards that work with this board are AGP 4x graphics cards or possiblly AGP 8x cards that are backwards compatible. If you buy an 8x card do your research to make sure it's backwards compatible before purchase. Newer graphics cards are pci-express x16 or pci-e 2. These will not work with your board. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

AGP 4X

Hi,

Specs sheets for an Acer Veriton 5200 says that it has one AGP 2X/4X expansion slot, therefore the answer to your query would be a yes. Even if your add-on video card is 8X, it would still work however the card would downgrade itself to only $4X.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,

Make sure the RAM you bought is on the QVL (Qualified Vendors List) for that motherboard. I know I have had problems with ASUS motherboards and OCZ ram before (for example).

QVL Found HERE

As for the monitor, what do you mean "my Monitor gets disturbed"?

Also make sure you have the games running on the Monitors recommended resolution.

Monitor doesnt switch on

Hi loudplumber, I doupt you're monitor functions in the manner you're stating. Does the monitor have a on/off button? If yes than you need to turn on the monitor. Check you're monitor, it will have a seperate power cord (That pluges into a wall AC jack) & a data cord which connects to the PC. If everything is connected correctly as I mentioned you should have a display on you're monitor. If you are not getting display than you're onboard integrated graphics card is not working. To test this you can add an AGP 4x 1.5v only graphics card to you're motherboard.
You can buy an AGP 4x 1.5v video card at this link. (Click on the link).
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3636311&CatId=694

This video card can run both 8x & 4x. You can tell it supports the 1.5v because there are only two copper connections (Not counting the end locking tail). If the video card you are buying has three copper connectors it is not 1.5v compatible. The 4x video card arena is getting smaller. Mfg's are not making AGP card that much any more.

Good luck!
