Dryer wont heat for more than 10 minutes when cold

did you clean the vent line?THAT COULD MAKE IT RUN HOT THE AIR CAN'T BLOW OUTSIDE,BUT WITH THE DRYER HAVING HEAT WHEN IT STARTS AND THEN AFTER LIKE 10 MINUTES NO HEAT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE BAD GAS COILS,WHEN THE COILS ARE STARTING TO FAIL THEY WILL WORK FOR LIKE THE FIRST 10 TO 20 MINUTES AND WHEN THEY HEAT UP NO GAS,WHEN THE COOL THEY WILL WORK AGAIN,I WOULD CHANGE THE COILS AND CLEAN OUT THE DRYER AND VENT LINE,THIS SHOULD BE DONE ONCE A YEAR SO YOU DON'T HAVE A FIRE AND YOUR CLOTHES WILL DRY ON TIME,EVERYONE THINKS SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE DRYER AND ALL THAT HAPPENS IS THE VENT LINE AND THE DUCT WHERE THE LINT FILTER SLIDES INTO FILLS WITH LINT AND THE AIR CAN'T BLOW AROUND GOOD ANYMORE,ALSO WITH A SHOP VAC VAC UP THE LINT WHERE THE BURNER AND MOTOR IS AND THEN SET THE VAC UP TO BLOW AND BLOW THE MOTOR AND GAS BURNER OUT,DO THIS AND YOU'LL HARDLY HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE DRYER

Gas Dryer wont stay lit.

It may be your dryer vent piping. If the piping from the dryer to the outside of the house is clogged with lint (which happens periodically) the dryer cannot get rid of the heat generated by the gas burner. When the temperature reaches a certain level the high limit switch opens and shuts the burner off. The switch closes again after the dryer cools down. Check the lint filter and all the vent piping for any obstructions and clean out thoroughly. This should solve your problem. Hope this helps.

We converted to propane and now have a problem of the dryer not heating

did you try running a load of wet clothing and see if it dries them.
The dryer wont heat up if it is empty, the burner will just ignite for a minute and then ******* because the sensor doesnt sense any moisture. Let me know how that works out for you.

Not enough heat

You may need to adjust the air flow on your dryer vent.
When an LG dryer is functioning normally---the time required to dry laundry is determined by the *Sensor* located on the drum side of the lint filter housing and by the main control board.
When laundry is near dry--any Time Remaining on the control panel that is *not* needed will be eliminated---except for the last 6 minutes.
The final 6 minutes of any LG automatic cycle is for cooling down the laundry before the dryer ends the cycle.
If a dryer *counts down* to the last 6 minutes but the laundry is still not dry--the computer will allow the dryer to run until the laundry has dried or defaults (not drying within the additional time allowed).
Dryer vents that are longer than 8 feet with more than (2) 90 degree turns--can affect drying performance.
Setting the DRY LEVEL selector to *Very Dry* will solve most dryability issues. In homes with abnormally long vents--even the longer run time in the *Very Dry* setting is usually not sufficient to dry laundry loads.
Reducing the length of the vent or starting a second cycle becomes necessary to fully dry the clothing.
If a second cycle was started---only the amount of time that is needed to dry laundry will be used before dropping to 6 minutes and then the cycle will end with dry laundry.
*****************************************

LG gas dryers are more sensitive to venting length and air flow resistance. The gas burner can cause a rapid increase in temperature compared to an electric burner.
Rapid temperature rise in a gas dryer leads to premature burner shutdown (longer time required to dry laundry).
The gradual temperature increase of an electric element is more "forgiving" in homes where the dryer venting is less than ideal.
*******************************************

Problem:
The dryer has an auto dry feature which never fully dries the clothes so we wind up manually setting the dry time to an hour
Solution:
LG gas dryers are VERY temperamental in long vent set-ups. If fabric softener sheets are used in the dryer--clean the two stainless steel strips of metal on the lint filter housing with a SCOTCHBRITE PAD--scrub back & forth several times to remove the waxy residue from the fabric softener sheets. Most,if not all manufacturers do *not* recommend using sheets in dryers that have a moisture sensor (electrodes).
However--using a SCOTCHBRITE pad keeps the wax off those sensors which can be seen if looking *into* the dryer drum and at the lint filter housing.
If only *liquid* fabric softener is used in the washer--clean the dryer sensors once a month. Liquid softener also contains wax which can slowly accumulate on the dryer sensors from the laundry washed in the washer.

Front load gas dryer lg model dlg 5988w does not heat

This can obviously be several things, but I would first check the small safety thermostat. On the gas models, there is a small pin sticking out of it which can be pushed back in to reset it. It is located on the heater housing and is only about the size of a dime, with two wires on it. This will trip out easily if your vent was not clean, or is long or restricted in some ways (like using flex ducting)
If you need more help getting to it, let me know and I'll give you more instructions.

Hello Kimwbarrym,
Maybe I can give you a few ideas on some things to check. As a general rule of thumb, to get maximum support here at Fixya, you should always include the brand and model of your appliance.. That helps us to tailor responses to your specific problem.. Anyway, regardless of dryer model, they all pretty much operate in the same basic manner and that is.. there is a heat source ( electric dryers use an heating element similar to an electric stove) A gas dryer is essentially the same but uses gas with an igniter to create a flame on a burner..) Outcome is the same.. Heat
Once heat is established, you need to move the clothes and the air thru the dryer compartment to optimize the drying efficiency. Both gas and electric models use a blower to move that heated air thru the compartment and out thru your vent system. If anything restricts air movement ( lint, blockage or any restriction in the blower or filter) your drying efficiency drops way down and dry times go way up. So. now you have the basics on how a drywer works.. Having said that... you need to check the basics first.. Make certain that you dryer exhaust system has NO restrictions to air flow.. you may have to detach vent line and check it for lint or anything in there.. If you have an electric dryer.. you can turn it on for a minute or two with the vent linbe disconnected to see if you are getting robust air movement.. If you aren't , then your problem is internal to the dryer, If you are.. you may have an exhaust duct restriction. Although not recommended, you can do the same for a gas dryer in a well ventilated area just to check the flow intensity.. But.. only for a short time since the gas burn byproduct is unhealthy for you to breath. I forgot to mention that the drum inside the dryuer should be moving the clothes during all this.. that acellerates the dry cycle too. Lastly, you need to make sure you are getting heat.. You can start a dry cycle with the dryer empty to see how warm it gets.. It should get fairly warm. Not sure I helped you but you now have a few things you can try. If you continue to have problems with this, feel free to contact me via this forum but please include the model number of your LG appliance..
Regards,
Rick
