Most restore disks are designed to work only with the ORIGINAL equipment. If you had replaced the motherboard with an identical unit the disks would have worked. But you used different board with different drivers, etc. What you can do is using another computer you can backup the files on your hard drive to a usb stick and then reload the hard drive with your OS of choice , load your programs and then transfer over your backed up files on the usb stick.

Had to replace hard drive. Can't reboot using system restore disks. System recognizes new drive, but error message says disks are not for this computer. Got disks when computer was purchased. No...

You may have just recieved the wrong set of restore discs for your computer. Have you replaced the motherboard in this computer at any point? The discs look for a specific code stored within the motherboard bios to keeps people from using system restore discs to install an operating system on whatever computer they want.

You can try contacting the manufacturer to see if they will send you another set of restore discs. They often charge for these, however, if you explain your situation to them they may send you another set at little to no charge.

Hope this was helpful

XP needs an PATA disk to install, it won't do it on a SATA disk. So just add a small IDE disk besides the present SATA one and install XP on it (and only it). Then load all your files and installed programs and files to the SATA one.
This board is a custom one, made for Fujitsu - there is no new BIOS for it anywhere.

Wull not play commercial DVD on DVD player installed

Some viruses disable removable drives, so be sure that your antivirus is current an you have done a complete scan.

If it recognizes that it is a DVD, the software might have to be reinstalled. You can try opening the DVD player manually, it may recognize it then. There are several firmware updates on the dell site for the DVD drives.

Try booting the computer with a restore disk (just abort if it actually starts). If the drive does not recognise dvds (on boot and if you open the computer icon and see if the disk shows up) as a last resort before replacement, you might try a commercial drive cleaner.

I bought a new dell charger and it's not being recognized. It's a PA-12 family charger and in the list is supposed to work with my 1501 Inspiron. Tried bios update.Microsoft ACPI is 6.0.6 already to.

Check in BIOS and see whether its recognised there..If its not, it could be the Motherboard which is the culprit here...if system is Out of Warranty, and its charging, then forget the recognising issue...other Contact Dell's Out Of warranty for repair options.Would suggest using Dell spares for the system than going with other 3rd party supported adaptors

UPDATING BIOS... DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK

This happens because the boot process fails: either because in the boot order the floppy isn't mentioned (put it first) or the bootdisk isn't good.
BTW you should update the BIOS only if you have problems, like a new processor not being recognized.

Can't install windows XP on a new 500GB Hard Disk

go to the manufacturers website and see what bios updates there are ? If any relate to recognizing hard drive capacity then it will be worth while installing the update onto the motherboard.

If not then check your motherboard for enabling LBA and if you read the manual it should explain what each option is for.

Also might be worth while slip streaming your xp installation disc with the sata drivers for your motherboard ( the sata drivers you can get from your motherboard manufacturers website, download and extract them and then use nlite to combine the sata drivers with the xp disc and re burn the xp disc ensuring to make it bootable )

Nlite website

Seeing as you are combining drivers it may be worth while getting all the other drivers ie network card, graphics, audio etc and combing that with your bootable xp disc.

Motherboard or Computer

have you used the auto hardrive detect in the bios, because it will still look for the previous drive, or highlight it in the standard cmos settings and enter it manually.

If you are swapping a hard drive from anothe pc with windows installed it will not boot as it won't recognise hardware, it has to be a clean drive.
