When you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in enable vga mode.
then change screen resolution to 1024*768
then apply and okay.

How do you fix a corrupted bios?

I don't think it's corrupt bios, maybe a virus or malware.
But if you can go to the computers maker website and download bios and install them the way they tell you to install them.

Why black screen , blinking white dash. What is that?

This likely means your PC is not starting up correctly... find another monitor and try booting PC again.. if everything views ol, then your monitor is bad. Otherwise your PC has a startup issue (bad drivers, recently added software causing issues, etc.)

Black screen on startup for macbook bro

It may be a problem with your light behind the screen or the driver's that produce the energy to light it up. Sounds like a hardware problem to me.

My acer desktop computer screen is black, the power says it is on but no pic, keeps cutting off, tried to back up and restore, cut off, says problem with windows and it shut off as well, HELP!

  • When the computer will not boot up, it sound like it is booting as the CPU fan is running and the lights are on. It also finds the CD ROM but it won't boot from a CD either.
  • Sometimes when you have a computer black screen on startup and the power switch light will be green and then turns to orange or amber. Everything is running.
  • Everything seems to be running but you can't see anything on the screen, not even a flashing cursor. Your black screen in Windows has occurred before the Windows logo screen:
  • 1- adapter or video card
  • 2-RAM
  • 3-and Black screen on startup with an amber flashing light
  • Not enough power getting to the motherboard.
  • A dead power supply.
  • A bent pin or shorted out USB port causing a problem.

what is the model of your computer,? if the recovery software is in a hidden partition there must be a way to access it from boot, otherwise, you will have to buy a windows disk and reinstall windows.

I have a dell computer, black screen with dot

You are having a boot problem. Sometimes there are beep codes or error lights that can help you to diagnose the cause. Go to support.dell.com and enter your system service tag #, then search troubleshooting for boot problem or startup problem or no boot and follow the advice for your operating system...
Here's a more general startup troubleshooter that may help you.
Otherwise, give us more info about your computer, including model # and OS and we'll try to help you sort it out...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Possible 2nd solution to removing programs upon startup

This is great! I have been using winpatrol for years. It's like msconfig on steroids. Download it (it's free) from http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html After it installs, when you click on the little black Scottish Terrier ( I guess that's what it's supposed to be) in your taskbar, up pops a screen. Startup Programs is the first tab. Everything you see there loads upon startup. If you don't want it to, right click the program(s), choose your preference (such as Disable- doesn't remove it, just won't let it start up) and you're good to go.
If you like this solution, please help me out by rating it!

Startup problem

This could be a corrupt bios or a low cmos battery, follow instructions. Take the right hand side panel off the pc. Look for a disc shaped 3V watch type battery and replace (Very cheap) Look on the motherboard and reset the bios at the 'JBAT1' terminal put jumper(little plastic cap) from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for a few seconds then back to pins 1-2. Restart pc and enter bios when prompted(or press F2 or DEL on startup) to set time and date, save settings and Exit bios. It should now boot ok.
