Question about Garden

Longlife garden tiller brand

I have a rear tine 4HP tiller. It is completely missing the throttle adjustment assembly from the motor to the handle. Are there replacement parts available or does anyone know of a plausible fix?

My poulan pro 17" rear tine tiller stalls wheels and tines when I start to till and starts to smoke. What could it be its brand new?

Please recheck your fuel and oil mixture. Most times too much oil will cause these problems. If you are certain that is not the problem, please check the unpacking and assembly instructions - even if you had someone else assemble the tiller for you. Once in a while things get left where they are supposed to be. If you smoking is happen due to fuel system delivery issues - you may need to adjust the carburetor portion of your tiller if it is available to do so. Most instruction manuals will have a trouble shooting section for common issues and answers on how to fix them. Cheers!!
Sincerely,
MPKramer

If you cant move the tines by hand then I wouldn't think you sheared the pins, more like a gear box problem.

Get behind the tiller as if you are ready to use it. Look down towards the tines. There's a protective cover. Remove it and you will see the belt running vertically between the motor and the tines.

Just bought an older Mantis 2 cycle tiller. The tines engage when the tiller is started. Of course that makes it hard to start with the tines on the ground! I don't believe it was doing this when I...

if the idle is too high the tines wont stop due to the tiller tines are run by a "centrifuigual clutch" which means when you increase the throttle speed the tines will start to turn : there are 2 adjustments you can try,1) adjust the idle screw under the carburetor where the throttle adjustment and a triangle piece of metal touch(your throttle cable wire will be attached to this triangle) ,if the triangle and idle adjustment don't touch and there's a gap between these 2 pieces close the gap by adjusting the 10mm adjusting nut, this will correctly set the idle #2) adjust the idle adjustment screw talked about above till the tines dont turn with throttle set at idle or lowest speed setting

Drive wheels not ternning

Tillers have a handle that you "squeeze to go". The handle activates a clutch, usually through a flexible cable. Does that handle offer resistance about halfway up as you squeeze it?

If not, that cable may have stretched a bit. Try adjusting the clutch by turning the nuts on the threaded sleeve where the cable comes out near the handle, until you get resistance when you squeeze the handle. The cable could also be broken, in which case adjusting won't help, but replacing the cable isn't expensive.

There's something else to check. Tillers have a pin to lock the wheels to the axle. It's right at the wheel hub. The pin can be pulled out to make it easy to move the tiller without running the motor. If you can push the tiller around easily with the motor off, then you may just have a missing wheel pin.

If it's not these simple things, it could be something worse like a problem in the transmission. If reverse works, but not forward, then it's probably the transmission, which is bad news. I hope it's one of the simple problems above.

Please rate if this was helpful, thanks and good luck!.

Where is the model number on my troybilt rear tine tiller?

If it's as old as mine (circa 1976), it's stamped on the casting right below the T-handle that allows the handle bars to pivot (also the gear case fill cap)

My Mantis Tiller 4cycle engine starts well but when I press the throttle completedly, the tines turn very slowly. This is a brand new tiller, used only twice. The engine is sitting all the way down on the...

I had same issue with my 2 year old 4cycle. Check if the carb is moving full stroke with throttle movement. I had almost no movement at carb at full throttle, found the trigger in throttle handle was cracked and bent rather than pull cable. I called mantis and they promptly sent a new handle bar ***'y with new cable, throttle ***'y Etc and that solved my problem.

BTW: If you cannot wait, I did figure out that if I pushed the carb to open with the throttle trigger fully pulled it would run at high, but when you let go.....LOL

Tiller will not till in forward motion.

sounds like your drive belt is worn or the handle bar adjustment is too tall and your handle is not adjusted.
