Checkout for the range you are working in. else it wont be that much effective.
Sometimes it happens that your driver misplaced or changes its parametetr in registry without awaring you.

Nominally you might get a more accurate answer by going to and entering the 'service tag' number (on the bottom of your machine next to the 'express service code'.

This machine also includes a field in the BIOS setup program; hit the F2 key when you see the Dell logo to start the BIOS setup program.

How do I transition into Windows 7 from XP?

I'm not sure why you would want to but this would require you to uninstall Windows 7 and then format the hard drive and install Windows XP. FYI - Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP as of early April 2014 so you won't get support from them anymore. The internet is still full of help though if you really need to downgrade.

Is Windows really going to stop supporting XP

As of sometime in April of 2014, Microsoft will stop updates for XP, they are going to force you to upgrade to a newer OS. Why???? because XP was a good Operating System and slowed down their sales an they are losing money. So, they are going to get money out of you whether you like it or not.....

I am trying to upgrade from windows xp to windows 7

Windows XP will be supported to April 2014, if you have the early addition you will need to download service pack 2 and 3 to get the updates. The laptop does not have sufficient ram to support windows 7 and some device drivers may not be supported.
