Replace the fan on my hp T5750

If the fan is dirty you can try to clean it if you have cleaned it and it still doesn't work you can get another fan but you will need to know the model number of the CPU. You need to make sure you get a fan that is rated for that CPU or better other wise you can have overheating problems and you can burn out the CPU if run it like that for too long. The new fan should have a guide on how to replace the fan seeing not all chip sockets are the same so trying to describe how to remove the fan in 1 system is not the same in another.

Startup freezes and sleeps for 5-10 minutes

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

HP Touchsmart 300

If your touchsmart is working then just cuts off then it is overheating, you have two options either buy compressed air and blow out the fans from the grills at the top or take the back off and buy artic silver compound and replace the old compound for the cpu and graphics. Also clean out the fans if you have this open. If you don't know how to open it I would advise taking this item to a computer repair shop

Message tells me CPU fan has do I find another one to buy? this is on a 1Q-770 touch smart all in one PC

It's an I ('eye') Q 770.

With tact and diplomacy:

1) Do you know how to open this puppy up? How to remove the Access Covers?

2) Do you know about Anti-Static Precautions?

3) Do you have experience with working on laptops, or at least desktop computers?

Make a mistake here, and you'll have an expensive doorstop.

1A) How to Remove the Access Covers,

More information can be obtained in the download (Free) manual - Parts Replacement Instructions.
But only a small modicum of info.

Left-click on HP TouchSmart Desktop PCs - Parts Replacement Instructions.

{This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files. After you click on the above named link, you may see a blank page for a few seconds. The file is downloading in the background, please be patient }

{ Motherboard Specifications:
Not current to the stated problem, but could be a world of information for you in the future. }

2A) Anti-Static Precautions:

Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the hardware components inside a computer.

Computer unplugged from power before you work on it. Also hold the Power On button in, and hold it in for a count of Five seconds.
Let go of the Power On button. Do this procedure 2 more times.

Haven't worked on the TouchSmart series of HP computers. Cannot tell you if the frame inside is made of Steel.
Experience in the computer repair business, and logic, dictates it is not.
I suspect the framework is Aluminum, as is used in laptops.

With a desktop computer you would make sure it is unplugged from power, then touch the metal frame of the open computer case, to relieve your body of Static. (Should you leave your computer in the middle of repair, touch the metal frame again upon your return)

With a laptop you should buy, and wear an ESD wrist strap. (Electro Static Discharge)
Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source. ( I use the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case)
An ESD wrist strap is also the best method for working on a desktop computer.

Therefore I recommend you buy, and wear an ESD wrist strap, when working on the IQ770. (Unplugged from power)
The average cost of an ESD wrist strap is around $6.

3A) With patience, and determination, you will replace the fan, and gain experience.
(Also as you have read there aren't that many techs, except at HP, that work on these babies. You may find your experience to benefit you, and others when someone has a problem with HP TouchSmart computers. JMHO)

I just did a search. Are you sitting DOWN?
$285.00 US dollars! REFURBISHED!,TouchSmart,IQ700,Computer,Fans.aspx

I suggest you see if you can carefully open the fan shroud, (The casing around the fan), and find a fan/motor replacement.

Look at the markings on the label of the fan.
Post what you see.
The fan should run on 5 Volts DC, (5VDC), or 12 Volts DC, (12VDC)

Tell me how many wires, and the color code of the wires.
(Color of the insulation on the wires)

What RPM is listed? (Revolutions Per Minute)
Examples: 1000RPM. 1200RPM. 1500RPM
It may just list the number, and not have the designation RPM after it.
(The above numbers are just off the top of my head. the RPM's could be Much higher, or lower)

Measure across the fan blades, give me the Diameter. (Inches or Millimeters, or Centimeters)

Measure the Width, or thickness of the fan blades.

Post in a Comment.

Upon booting, I get a screen that says my CPU fan has failed. The PC is a hp touchsmart iq770. If I order a new fan, is it something that I can replace myself....or do I need an experienced technician?

If you go to a computer shop and you can tell them wich type of motherboard and or cpu you have, they can give you the cpu fan you need. The replacement is easy but it depends on wich cpu you have. First of all i would check the power connection cable of you cpu fan to your motherboard. Are you sure the fan doens't turn any more?

I have an HP touchsmart IQ790uk, error message: cpu fan failed

The fan is attached to the heat-sink and can be removed/unscrewed off the heatsink. Take the fan to the computer or elecronics hobby shop for a replacement fan.
The are after-market CPU heat-sink fan assemblies available (these usually provide better cooling than the original units), just remove the existing assembly and take it to your friendly computer shop for a suitable replacement.

Sometimes a problem like that is not related to the keyboard, but to the operating system itself. Hit Control + Shift+Esc keys to bring up the task manager. Click the "Processes" tab and look in the CPU column for excessive CPU use... anything more than 50% .Look to the left and find the program is that is causing the problem. This should give you a start for diagnosis. Average CPU use should run about 2-20%. You can read this at the bottom of the Task Manager. Constant CPU % running higher than this denotes a problem.
