The system does not allow me to add broadband , is that correct? At present I have a separate independent phone line for broadband ; an expensive solution . Any thoughts?

You will need to enter programming mode. Here are the directions.
You must be on the main phone on jack 01 to set time. You can determine if your phone is jack 01 by setting the switch on the end of a display phone to PROGRAM and then pushing the number 6 on the dial pad. The phone will read the jack and extension number. When you have determined the jack 01 phone, do the following.

First of all, UNPLUG one of the PITS phones. A 61610 only allows you to use one system phone per jack. The damage is probably not permanent, but I'd look at how you wired those jacks together. The voltage on each pair of a jack can be measured; it's 24 volts DC for the center pair (red/green) and about 13 volts for the data pair (black/yellow) and nothing between the voice and data pairs.
I'm guessing that you may have crossed or shorted one of the wires.
The power of a station is in an odd/even arrangement. Go back to the cabinet and uplug the two extensions that feed your jacks and its mate and test from there. If they both work, you're good to go, if not....16 minus 10 equals 6 :-)
You might find that if the ports are damaged, you can still use them for single line sets. Look at it this way, you had about 20 years of flawless operation.
You can use call pickup to share two phones in a room, 40 is all pickup, 43 answers the page, and 4+the extension number IIRC picks up a specific ringing phone.

If you are using this phone on a Panasonic KX-TDA 30/100/200/600 system. From the Switcboard / Main telephone or Managers phone with the handset on the cradle/hook press Program * * or Program * # followed by the system password ( default is 1234). Now press 004 and then ENTER. Enter the extension number you want to change. Now enter the name (the same way as texting on a cellphone) To save the changes press AUTO DIAL / STORE. To go to the next extension press NEXT on the screen. When you are done lift the handset and put it down to exit program mode.
PLEASE rate/vote this answer if it was helpfull.
