Question about Philips 55PP9401 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

55 inch (55pp95 0217) turns on then clicks off

Hello, I recently was given this philips tv, its a 55pp95 2017 55in. When I turn it on the power light (built into the button) turns on (red). The speakers make a sound as they kick on as i would normally expect them to. No obviously out of place sounds. After a few seconds of being powered on the tv clicks and shuts off. Not always the same amount of time goes by before it kicks off, and the screen doesn't do anything at all. I have taken the back panel off and I inspected the one fuse i could find and it is fine. Nothing looks burnt up or damaged on the inside. There was a bit of dust... don't know if that could cause a problem like this. On top of it all the nearest tv repair shop is about 200 miles away so its not a very easy option for me. Please let me know what you think.

I replaced this part (310432815384) and still no luck. Its as though I hadn't replaced it at all. However, you were correct on my model number typo. What else could it be?

I believe what you have there is a Philips 55pp9502/17 and with hose symptoms it's most likely the Smd capacitor 2009 on small signal board is leaking. Replace 2009 using 319801634710. Locate 2009 on the flyback side of the ssb, above the marking for ic7011 which is absent. Caution: remove ac power for at least 10 seconds before removing the Ssb from the chassis.
If you're not that good with SMT (surface mount technology), like some of us techs simply replace the ssb as a module, Philips p/n# 310432815384...

If you've replaced the Ssb my only other guess would be the power supply module, philips p/n# 313503710591 but before replacing it pull it and do some static testing on the main stage regulator and esr the caps. Otherwise you're simply throwing parts at it...

William, my sister in law has a 55pp 9401 with a similar issue. I have no equipment to test it other than a multimeter. Is there an online troubleshooting guide or repair manual available?

If it is turning off by itself then your power supply might be going out. If it does not bother you too much right now I would wait until it gets worst. Depending on how much you use it it may not get worst in months.

You can get parts at www.interliquidparts.com

Philips 50 Inch Plasma Model 50PF7320A/37 will not turn on

Commonly it's going to be a power supply related problem. The two boards that need to be looked at is the Main Power Supply Board or the power supply board for the screen. The one that powers the screen, some manufactures call it a Backlight Inverter Board.
If you have some electronic experience, you can sometimes find a Service Manual for the TV over the internet for less than $20. It will have the all resource material for repairing your TV model. It's just the matter of replacing the bad part on the circuit board.
