Inkjet printheads are electrical devices and subject to failure. The error report may be indicating the failure of one or more of the delicate resistive elements in the head. Unfortunately, the electrical drivers failing would probably give the same indication. BTW, alcohol isn't the best choice for cleaning clogged printheads; window cleaner dissolves ink much better.

My printer will not print. Light is flashing yellow seven times?

Hi. What did you do before it happens?

Please try this manual resetting of the printer.

Remove the USB cable into the printer and leave the printer on.
Remove all the cartridges.
Close the cartridge door and wait for the INSERT INK MESSAGE to appear.
Disconnect the power cable and from the power source supply.
Move the carriage using your hand from the original position to the other side of the printer and then move it back to original position. Wait for couple of minutes
Reconnect power cord and turn on the printer.
Return all the ink cartridges and close the door. Wait for the calibration process.
Print the test page to check if it working.
Reconnect the USB cable and try to print again.
Post comment if you need more help. Regards

If not try to clean the print head using a clean cloth with rubbing alcohol and then rub the print head into a plain paper with alcohol.

My printer power wont turn on when i press button

Try removing your printer cartridges and then the print head from the printer. If the printer powers up with the print head removed, then the print head is either shorted or clogged. If it's shorted out then you will need a new print head (usually cheaper to just buy a new printer). If you can clean the print head without damaging it, sometimes it will work again. Usaully a good 24 hour soak in alcohol or a cleaning solution will work.

Printer will not print red. The red cartridge seems fine, with ink flowing freely, but it won't print onto the page.

its the problem of print head in your printer. You are not the only one facing this problem there are many other users facing this same canon printer users out of 10 users ---- 8 users face this problem.
Now I will explain the problem
In the printer where you insert the cartridges is called the carriage there is a part called PRINT HEAD. In the print head there are tiny – tiny holes from where the ink passes.when you insert the cartridge in the carriage /head of the printer the ink from the cartridge passes from the head.but if the head is got blocked then the ink will not pass from the head and you get no print out still with the new brand in the printer there is a in built cleaning assembly , so when you give the command of cleaning from your pc/laptop the inbuilt cleaning assembly tries to clean the blocked ink in the tiny holes of the head.but if the ink is got stuck up hard the cleaning assembly in the printer does not have that much power to clean the ink in the head.the other procedure to clean the head is a manual this procedure the head needs to be removed from the printer by disassembling the printer.but in this case out of 100 only 4 to 5 heads gets cleaned and start working but that also don’t last long.its not any guarantee that how much the manually cleaned head will work.
In some cases it has been seen that ink gets used only in cleaning but after inserting new cartridges the printer starts working.if you have inserted new cartridges in the printer and still don’t get any printout then its advisable that you go for any other brand printer.hp is the best brand of printer. Or the other option is you take the printer to local printer repair shop to get the head manually cleaned if you at present don’t want to invest in new printer.a repair center have some special tools to clean the print head its 50 ---- 50 can try that first.
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

I cant print any paper out. it dosent work. something wrong with the paperhead. ive tried to clean up all printer but it dosentwork anyway. to print out pics on a cd works triffic. bt i want to print out...

If it prints photos but not regular (black) text. This means the black ink is not flowing at the nuzzle. This usually may not be resolved by just running printer ink head clean up.

What you should do is take out the black ink cartridge, press a folded tissue paper to the nuzzle (where the flows from); if it comes out blotted with ink, it is OK. if not, that's the cause of the problem. So place it in a plate/saucer/bowl with a bit of water so that the nuzzle part is all touching water. Leave it for about 10 minutes. take it out and press a folded tissue paper to it. The tissue should be blotted with black ink. You may need to repeat procedure till the blot is good enough/the flow is good enough. Then return it to the printer and print again.

Canon i9900 isn't printing photo magenta

Use denatured alcohol to soak the print head. Then use suction to draw the alcohol back thru to the foam ports where the ink cartridges rest. Continue until the alcohol runs clear. Then use water and then repeat with alcohol. Allow to dry and re-install in printer. Use new ink cartridges when re-starting printing.

Try cleaning off the contacts on the ink carriage with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. The part that connects to the copper contacts on the printhead. You can't harm them by cleaning this way. And the alcohol evaporates pretty quick. Canon ink is 65% alcohol and this dissolves and cleans off ink residue on any part of the printer. Sometimes these contacts get dirty over time and won't read print heads installed any more. This fixes about half the printers like this I have problems with.

If cleaning doesn't help, and a new print head won't work, then the only fix is to replace the ink tank carriage assembly.
