Your best bet is to just "google" it - in all likelihood you will come across an article or u tube video re the dis assembly of your specific unit. Also look for the service manual for your unit on line. Many are available and invaluable for tearing down.

Thanks for that-- I spent half a day doing that,--none of the ones I looked at were the same as ny PC !!--The manual was very good it coverd nearly everything--but didn't mention the Bios battery---Perhaps they thought it would outlast the latp top !!!

Add a Comment I may now have to send it to a professional !!!

  • richie46 Mar 31, 2014

I am not familiar with the physical configuration of that unit. Due to space considerations the battery has to be lying flat on the circuitry side of the motherboard. Try to do it yourself because if you send to a "professional" you will get zapped money wise for what is really a very simple fix. Did you try the obvious - contacting Acer support?

  • David hr Apr 01, 2014

I'd checked the top of the motherboard---and could not find it-- so I backed off-taking it all to pieces to get to the back-seemed a bit challenging-until I knew for sure where it was hidden !! You very basic idea of Acer support was brilliant--I had got so used to modern firms being totally useless, that I had not thought of this----very good -thank you David

SOURCE: Acer Travelmate 2200 keyboard removal

open the small horizontal panel above your keyboard with a small screwdriver (you should do it gently) > open the screw below that panel > open your keyboard (be careful not to pull your keyboard too hard because there is cables underneath your keyboard) > from there, your memory slot should accessible.

SOURCE: Acer travelmate 4650, after bios flashing, no display.thanks.

HI there
Sounds like the bios flash has failed, the only thing you can do now is try to flash again, make sure you have the right bios update for that model machine, suggest you get a USB floppy drive so you are able to re-flash the bios, if it still doesn't work then the machine is rendered useless.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Step 1:
This might not be your laptop it might give you a guide into the cmos battery
The CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) battery saves basic settings on your computer. If the date and time function on your Acer notebook isn't working, chances are your CMOS battery needs to be replaced. Separate from your laptop's main battery, the CMOS battery is about the and shape of a coin and is located inside of your computer. Changing the battery yourself isn't the simplest task that relates to your Acer, but it isn't terribly difficult either. Here's how.

Open the notebook screen until you can easily access the keyboard. Locate the plastic bar that borders the top of the keyboard. Insert the flat head screwdriver at one end of the bar and gently pry it up until you can grip the edge with your fingers. Pry the other side of the bar up with the screwdriver and pull out the entire bar, being careful to mind the ribbon cord that connects the keyboard to the computer. Remove the two screws on either side of the keyboard that secure it to the computer. Slide the keyboard up and place it to the side. Remove the four screws on the exposed metal plate that covers the motherboard and remove it. You should now see the CMOS battery in the bottom-right-hand corner of the motherboard. Remove the battery by gently pulling it up and off the motherboard. Replace it with the same model battery (available at any computer store or online). Reassemble the computer the same way you took it apart. Acer TravelMate 6592G Keyboard Replacement Guide http://tomkaminski.com/acer-travelmate-6592g-keyboard-replacement-guide

Acer travelmate 2700 bios password and where is the CMOS battry on the mother board

Hi there,

your bios battery is soldered into the mainboard, its under the keyboard, next to the modem board and the bios chip itself.

10_9_2011_7_43_59_am.jpg

In order to get to the battery you would first have to dissasemble the laptop, remove the keyboard, power buttons, and the top of the machine. You may also have to remove the display if its holding the top of the cover in place.

Removing the battery is no guarantee of reseting the password. You need to study the bios chip and find out which pins of it you need to short in order to reset its memory. In some cases the password might be stored on another chip.

Configuration of keyboard and shortcut keys d acer 4502 lmi...

The Acer Travelmate 4502LMi Notebook PC is one of the TravelMate 4500 series of Notebook PC's.

This is Acer Support > TravelMate 4500 series of Notebook PC's manual download page,

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/0000/Acer/TravelMate4500/TravelMate4500ul.shtml

Left-click on -
TravelMate 2300 Users Guide.
It is for the TravelMate 2300, 4000, and 4500 series of Notebook PC's, and is in English.

[This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it which uses PDF files.
I would recommend however, upgrading to Adobe Reader X (10), if the computer you are using does not have it.

It may take up to 30 seconds before you see the first page, and additional time to fully download the file. There is a way to save this PDF document to your computer. This way you can burn it to a CD disk for safekeeping, and delete it from the computer to save harddrive space.

If you do not know how, and wish to, please post in a Comment ]

At the top of the PDF file is the page number box. It is to the left of the blue Down Arrow.
Go to Page 23.

[You can use the blue Down Arrow to go to Page 23, or

1) Put your mouse cursor in the page number box. Left-click once
2) Type 23
3) Press the Enter key ]

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Lose TravelMate 270 Series Notebook..bios paswoed

In order to remove password an (educational) solution is to open your laptop back with a screwdriver carefully and remove the bios battery (its a small silver colored round one) and put it back after 5-10 minutes. Then you can close the laptop back and access the bios setup utiliy by pressing the f2 or the f number displayed on startup and replace or deactivate the password. Another solution is to use a backdoor password according to the manufacturer and deactivate the password (search googlefor it) or use a small software utility like !BIOS if i remember correctly to retrieve the password but it may take some time. I hope that helped!

How to change cmos battery . or at least I presume its that. POST reports time error each boot despite resetting

You are correct, the BIOS battery is flat and needs to be replaces.
The BIOS battery maybe behind one of the panels on the bottom of the laptop or it maybe under the keyboard. The most common BIOS batteries in laptops are button 3v lithium batteries. You need to locate, remove to identify the type and size of the battery.

Break bios password in acer 2420 travelmate laptop

remove the cover which has your power button and covers the LCD cables. Remove the keyboard and flip it over, being careful to not pull too hard on the cable. There's 2 small triangular silver connection pads beside the keyboard connector on the main board - connect them together and power on your computer (flat screwdriver works fine). Press the f2 key - you'll find it doesn't prompt you for a password. You can lift off the connections now. Go to exit and save changes, and you're password free.
