Question about Audiovox Prestige Code Alarm Remote Alarm Protx6

Prestige alarm remote # APSO2BT2

The remote acts very strange. When a battery is put in the remote, the green light flashes wildly for about 5 seconds straight, and then it stops working. Also, the valet switch is no longer part of the car. Over the years I have had the alarm, the wire from the switch ripped because it was installed with the wire hanging over the gas pedal. How can fix this?

SOURCE: how to disable or reset a Prestige car alarm.

The valet switch,on the newer Prestige alarms, is a push button LED or, it's incorporated into the antenna. In both cases, turn the key to the on position, then press and release the valet switch. The alarm will respond with two chirps confirming that it is disarmed. You may now start the vehicle. After you successfully disarmed the alarm, turn the key to on position, press and hold the valet switch for approximately 5 seconds, the LED will come on solid. Turn the key off.The alarm is now in valet. You can take it out of valet in the same manner.

SOURCE: my alarm was working fine

Sounds like the unit may have seized (common occurence with this unit). Disconnect the positive battery terminal, wait ten seconds, reconnect. If you have a security radio be sure to have the code handy.

SOURCE: I bought my car used

Locate a black push button switch under the dash or near the drivers side kick panel (older model), or the alarm has a push button LED light(newer model) or the Valet switch is in the antenna(newest model). Turn the ignition on, press and release the switch one time. This should disarm the alarm.

For programming: turn ignition on, press and release the valet switch three times: you will hear one chirp from the alarm, press the lock button on the remote. Press and release the valet one time, you will hear two chirps from the alarm, press the unlock button on the remote. Repeat as necessary. Turn igniton off to exit programming. Test remote for proper functioning.

SOURCE: Prestige car alarm, 1991, on a BMW318is 1991. Prevents starting car

follow all the wires from the alarm back to the wiring loom then reconnect the wires that have been cut ,simple but time consuming job and it possible as i have done a few on beemers and these remote start things ,complete waste of time fitting in the first place people seem to think they know it all and listern to the so called experts with their 1950s BBC english and automaticaly assume that because they talk posh they know it all and pay a fortune for junk alarms when a padlock and chain around the steering wheel is a better antitheft device

Two of my smoke alarms went off (no fire/smoke in or near house), one has a green light blinking and one has a solid green light, which need a new battery/reset?

The constant green LED means the alarm has AC power.
A flashing green light every 2 seconds without an audible alert means the unit recently sounded ( was the one activated ) and is now in latching mode to let you know that it was the unit that detected the problem. To clear the latching mode hold down the test button for 5 seconds.
Red LED flashing once per minute means that the back-up battery is connected and functioning.
Red light flashing constantly during alarm means that it is the unit that initiated the alarm siren.

The LED blinking twice and, the trunk and hood being displayed on the remote indicates trunk/hood trigger. Now, when you attempt to remote start the vehicle and nothing happens, it's definitely the hood pin switch. By the way, the remote should be displaying "inhibit" as well at this point. Check for the hood pin switch under the hood; it's probably bent downward, not allowing the pin to make contact with the hood when it's closed. If it's a bracket, bend it upwards. If it's a pin, unscrew it upwards a couple of turns so it makes contact with the hood when it's closed.

Need to reset prestige car alarm - going off intermittently

If your alarm is going off intermittently:

It could be the shock sensor; usually located around the steering column under the dash. It is a small black box with two small lights ( one red, one green) and a philips screw used to adjust the sensitivity. Counter clockwise reduces the sensitivity.

It could be an open trigger: door, trunk, or hood pin. If you have a pin in the trunk or under the hood that was added by the installer, they sometimes can be inadvertently bent downward by loading the trunk or, some guy changing your oil. If that is the case, just bend them back upwards until they make contact with the hood/trunk lid when closed and you receive one chirp when arming the system.

Here is a quick way to determine what exactly is causing the alarm to trigger:
After the alarm triggers, disarm the alarm and pay close attention to the LED light. One flash is the shock sensor. Two flashes is the hood/trunk pin. Three flashes is the door trigger.
