If my motor locks up will my wheels still turn

I busted my oil pan. After I lost all of my oil my car shut down. It wont start back. When I go to crank it, it sounds like loose terminals but the lights come on. Will the gears still shift & the wheels turn if the engine is locked up?

Yes the wheels will still turn if the transmission in in neutral. The gears are probably OK but without the engine turning you would not be able to tell.. Sounds like you messed up the crank bearings or cam shaft. Probably needs to be rebuilt

Busted oil pan now can wont start tryed cranking to start

Did you replace the oil pan? many new cars have an oil level sensor and will not start if they read low oil so as to prevent the motor from seizing from too much heat and friction/wear.

Seized engine

Could possibly be Crank shaft, crank bearing, or dropped a valve. Im assuming when you say it wont start, you mean it wont even turn over. If you say the drive sprocket wont turn then someting is stopping the crank shaft from turning. You will need to explore more of the engine to find the exact problem. Workshop manuals can be found online and downloaded if you look about, they will tell you exactly how to strip the engine down.

I have a 2005 cavalier and i hit a bump and then the car shut down and was draind of oil through a hole in the pan i was wondering if the 2005 had a engin shut off on somthing like that cuz it made no nose...

If you drove very far with no oil, it will have done damage to the engine bearings. Try turning the engine over by hand using a socket and bar on the bolt in the center of the big pulley on the bottom of the motor. Go clockwise. If you meet alot of resistance or wont turn at all, time for a rebuild. If it turns freely, try a new oil pan and oil and crank it over. If you hear alot of racket from motor, time for a rebuild. If it starts up and runs, you may have gotten lucky. I dont believe there is an auto shutdown detection as such, usually, if you lose oil pressure, you lose vaccuum, and that can stall the motor out, saving your engine.......Mike

I'm afraid the prognosis is terminal - the cost of replacing the motor exceeds the vehicles value. I'm certain serious damage occurred deep in the motor and you need to replace it. Oil cannot come out unless there is an exit - mainly a hole in the side of the block or cylinder head, most commonly the block, or a part of the motor made a hole through the oil pan - either way I think your motor is toast. The stall was that part coming off the motor and causing the hole for the oil to exit, which also seized the motor.
Sorry to bring you bad news, but You'd be best served to shop for a new car and sell that one for scrap.

Does a 2000 Mercury Cougar have any kind of sensor to keep it from locking up the engine when there is no oil? The oil pan busted while driving and engine shut off?

Some cars did have a fuel pump shut off if the oil was low, I don't know about the Cougar. You didn't cook the engine did you? It will run about 2 or 3 mins without oil. Then it is cooked. And how did the oil pan break?? Check it out.

Help. I need to drain the oil from my PR600y21RP mower but cannot figure out where/how to drain the oil!!!

You should be able to turn your mower on it's side ( the side opposite the muffler) and look on the motor hub within a couple of inches of the drive shaft and find the oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine ( usually a four sided square end pipe type plug ). once you have found it, turn mower back on it's wheels and start and run it long enough to warm the engine oil (5 min. should work). Shut the mower down...have a flat pan capable of holding the oil volume (a little more than a quart) ready to catch the oil. Turn the mower back on it's side and with an adjustable wrench, loosen and remove the drain plug....with pan under mower quickly turn mower back on it's wheels and allow the oil to drain into the pan. if your mower is equipped with an oil filler tube, remove the filler cap and dip stick. This will allow the oil to drain faster.....when the oil has drained turn the mower back on it's side and replace the drain plug...tighten firmly. put mower back on it's wheels and refill with the proper amount and type of engine oil. fill to the proper mark on the dipstick and DO NOT overfill. Start mower and let run for a few minutes...shut down and check for any oil leaks....and you're done ....hope this helps ;-D
