The bulb has to be replaced and may be you are checking when the oven is not ON .Best thing now is replace the bulb with correct wattage(may be 40W) and voltage too.

Microwave Cooktop / Night Light not working

I would check the door switches with a digital meter, set to ohms, disconnect one wire from switch and test for open and short by pressing door switch, if you hit one that tests the same when pressing and releasing, switch should be replaced.

NO HEAT AND MAKE LOUDER

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

This is a job for a professional but if you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!any capacitors are discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

Kenmore microwave mod. 721.80412500 does not heat, timer, lights, fan ok.possible to try a fuse, before calling sears?

If the fuse were blown, You wouldn't even get a display. If you're handy with a multi-meter, and feel somewhat comfortable making electrical tests, the first thing to check is whether the problem is coming from the low voltage (control) side of the oven, or the high voltage side (transformer, magnetron, capacitor and diode).

Unplug the oven and remove the cabinet cover. Before reaching into the chassis, discharge the capacitor by shorting between the two sides with a screwdriver or similar tool. It can store up to about 2000 volts, and can hurt you badly. A brief touch with your shorting tool is all that's necessary.

Disconnect the wire lead that goes from the power transformer (the largest component on your oven's right side (as you face the door), to the capacitor. Insulate it against any metal contact by wrapping electrical tape around the connector.

Set your meter to test for house voltage (the 200VAC range). Plug the machine in and select a cooking cycle. While it's trying to cook, place your meter's leads on the wires coming from the control board to the primary terminals on the transformer. You're looking for a reading that's reasonably close to 120VAC. If you don't get enough voltage, the problem is with the control board. If you do get the required voltage, the problem is in one of the high voltage components.

Write back with your results for further diagnosis.

Danby Designer 1.1 cu.ft. Microwave oven model DMW1158W I came home from work...went to heat up some lunch and the microwave didn't work. I thought maybe the power was off...no...power was on. I...

Weird that it worked when you left then not. Have you had the lights inside of your house dimming off and on?? It could mean a bad neutral connection to your house from the power pole. That can cause the low voltage transformer on the timer board to burn out. So the fuse in the unit will not even blow but still kill the Low Voltage transformer. If sounds possible call your power company to do a "load test" on the incoming power lines to your house.. They don't typically even charge to do that. They take out your meter and put a tester in that spot that tests the supply to your house.

We have a Goldstar mv1310w microwave that the lights have quit working on. This is the light over the range that you can turn on while cooking on the stove. We put new bulbs in and I even show voltage on...

mcdevito75 here, It could be the light sockets are dirty from cooking fumes, oil etc, remove power from the sockets and clean them with alcholol and cotton swabs or paper towels etc.

Panasonic 1250 Watt genius microwave- will not cook. message refer to operators manual before use. Have owned for several years, has run afew times after unplugging for a few minutes, then nothing. clock,...

Confirm 110-120 volts AC is entering the primary coil on the high voltage transformer....meter works but can be fooled, I usually rig up a light socket and household light bulb and hook that to the 2 input wires for the transformer and see if the light works or not when you run the microwave....can even set a power level and watch the light go on and off. Discharge the capacitor first before attempting any checks or tests.

Scary but works!....

If ok, put those 2 wires back on the transformer. Discharge the capacitor .
Remove the 2 wires going to the magnetron....run the microwave a few seconds ( 2-3 ) and remove power....again discharge the high voltage capacitor . If you got a good crack&spark when you discharge the cap the second time you are creating high voltage but not using it ( bad magnetron or loose High Voltage wire somewhere )....if you get no crack&spark you are not creating high voltage.

How to check a common high voltage diode - click here. Check the diode with one end off/disconnected....should show continuity one way, reverse your meter leads and none the other way.....many meters are not high/good enough and often show no continuity ( infinity ) in both directions. A full continuity reading in both directions  (0 ohms) on the diode may be shorted/bad one!
Many  microwaves however have a defect in the microwave distribution system which causes the magnetron tube to overheat and cut out and/or damage the diode.

Maytag MMV5165AAS work surface light won't work. I bought a new light and replaced the old one but it still will not turn on. THe microwave display goes thought the cycle of High, Low, Off but nothing...

If the lamp socket has power (and it's the right voltage) and the replacement lamp is the correct one and tests good, then the trouble is in the socket. It may have been damaged when the original lamp went "poof." Check for damaged contacts (burnt or broken off). Also, make sure you're seating the lamp correctly in the socket. If the bulb is a push-and-turn ("bayonet") type, you may be facing it the wrong way and it's not going all the way in.

Check the high voltage fuse between the transformer and the capacitor, had the same problem with mineand this fixed it. Not an ordinary fuse though (5Kv 0.8a), cost me about a fiver.

MICROWAVE HUMS WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED.EVERY THING ELSE WORKS FINE.

Perhaps a fluorescent ballast or transformer is letting you know it's going bad; it might just need to be reset (see the manual as well as trying to unplug/wait/replug.)

Failing that, It is simple enough to unplug it, put it on a test bench, disconnect the lamp and see if it still hums; if not the lamp, you will have a better idea what is humming with the lid off, but stay inches away of the (usually well-packed-away) high voltage feeds to the magnetron as you do.  It could be that you just have junk inside the door switch and can unplug, clean out the switch interior (crumbs sneak in!) and put it back for a fix; or a stuck stirrer at the RF feed off the magnetron.
