I am looking to buy a telescope for my husbands 50th b-day and fathers day. How do i go about choosing one?

Read these two articles-

A 6 inch or 8 inch Dobsonian mounted reflector is what we usually recommend for a beginner. Like this one:

What is the use of thistelescope?

There are many uses for a telescope, but only two come to mind:

1. Looking at constellations in the sky during the night.

2. Checking in on your neighbors.

Either way, lots of fun.

No it's not --- junk it and buy another telescope. This time avoid Bushnell- Tasco, and Edu Science scopes.

Check out the Orion web site here, for a Dobsonian reflector telescope. The most aperture for the least amount of money.

DO NOT buy an Edu Science telescope. We receive many complains on these scopes.

Try this web site for a nice small Dobsonian style telescope, like this one.

Just bought, used, set up but cant see anything through any of the lenses

I answered your question in your other posting.

SEE this and look at the picture of the Dobsonian reflector. Notice the eyepiece and focuser is on the FRONT of the telescope. The mirror is the BOTTOM of the telescope.

I purchased a science tech 675 X reflector telescope and need an instruction manual. Where could I download one?

This is a Fisher Price toy telescope. You will not find an operational manual.

Return the scope, it's considered junk. After you return it, consider a reflector on a Dobsonian mount as your first telescope. Like this one:

and read my telescope TIPS on my profile page.

How would you rate +Venture RX-9 telescope?

If you read down this page there is a manual
http://cs.astronomy.com/asycs/forums/t/30807.aspx

This is a cheaply made in China reflector telescope. It is mounted on a small equatorial mount which is too small to support the tube. It will be very shaky. These scopes appear on Craigslist after the owner determines they are really just a "toy" telescope.

You can do much better for their $249 asking price. Look at a Dobsonian telescope like one of these.

Gluing the mirror back on the mount

A better solution would be to buy a commercially available mirror holder and mount this in the bottom. On these the mirror is held on the edge by clips --

Rear mirror

I may be telling you something you already know, but just in case.

If your telescope is a newtonian/dobsonian (i.e., long, large tube) then the mirror in the bottom can be adjusted to collimate or align properly.

On the other hand, if the top of the telescope has glass over it (refractor telescope) then putting it back into place will be more labor intensive and I wouldnt even try it. Try going to the manufacturers website and asking them. You might post the same question on a telescope forum called cloudynights.com. If you live in a large city, try searching for local astronomy clubs as every astronomy club has some guy there who takes these things apart for no reason just to put them back together.
