Take keyboard apart, clean it with alcohol, and try it.

May have to, separate the 3 layers of plastic to try to completely clean it.

If the traces are damaged, buy a cheap Radio Shack trace repair pen and draw back in the damaged traces.

Likely the traces may be damaged and discolored.

Basically all the keyboard is is 3 layers of plastic with the center one a little thicker and used as a spacer. the other two can be printed with conductive ink, which is easily damaged by some liquids that react with the ink. Hench the trace pen.

How to get caps lock working on dell inspirion 580

The only thing you can try is get a can of compressed air, attach straw and blast under the Caps Lock key in hopes it is dirt buildup that can be removed, If there is no change the only option is replace the keyboard. Go to www.ebay.com Type make and model of laptop, refine search to keyboard.

KEYBOARD HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN!!!!

I have had this same problem before and it happened after I spilled tea (with sugar), on my keyboard. It may be that the prior owner spilled something on the keyboard. This can be fixed by ordering a new keyboard (the plastic circuit board), that fits underneath the actual keyboard. They can be purchased through Dell or Ebay and take about 10 minutes to install.
