I take about 20 pic's and my batteries are dead.

I take about 20 pic's and the batteries are dead. I take the batteries out when the camera is not in use. Is there a special battery that I should be using? I bought the camera at Wal-mart about a month ago. I love the camera but it seems to eat batteries.
