I have a Whirlpool dishwasher Type 583-1 Model WDT720PADM2. It is suddenly not washing or drying well. Leaving bits of food and layer of film on dishes/glasses. Soap is sometimes not dissolved.Help!

Assuming the machine fills and drains water ok, and is heating the water too, and you can hear the circulation pump running during the wash, the most likely problem is blocked jets in the spray arms. You have to remember that a dishwasher is NOT a garbage disposal unit, and plates must be scraped clean before they are put into the machine for a wash. Bits of uneaten food in the machine will clog the filters, coat the walls of the machine and work their way into the spray arm jets especially at the very ends. These end jets are the only reason the jets rotate, and if blocked the arm just sits still and poor washing results. Remove and / or examine the ends of the spray arms carefully - often fruit pips or pasta can be seen blocking the jets. Remove this with a pin and running water. Also then run a dishwasher cleaner through the machine, with No load in - do this regularly to reduce blockages and smells.
spray arms can be taken to pieces in most cases to clear blockages. Always use a top quality detergent in the wash for best results.

Not cleaning and no water or movement from top arm

Took apart the lower wash arm and the tower and this is where you noticed the water was sitting, but it would not shoot ou of the tower/arm.
Stirred a screw driver in there and didnt really hit much.
Jerked the motor relay and the water inlet valve.
Something might have been clogging the pump

Hope that helps.....

Indesit idf 125 freestanding dishwasher. In all programmes dishwasher goes through wash cycle, but doesn't proceed into drying mode, instead it starts wash cycle again.

Is it a model with a mechanical wash timer, or electronic control? Either way, sounds like the machine is not acknowledging the program end condition, and may need replacing

Hi, the dishes on the top rack of our Whirlpool Quietmaster III do not dry completely, but the bottom dishes are fine. We have to re-wash the upper rack dishes; they have spots on them. Ron.

Make sure the top spray arm is turning! check for blockage in the jets at the very end of the spray arm, or that the spray arm has not split. Put the arm in a known position, and check it has moved after a few moments. Remove blockages or replace the arm if necessary.
These machines dry only by the last rinse being in hot water, then the plates drip dry. Are you using rinse aid? this helps the water to disperse without spots.

The dishwasher runs through it's cycle but does not clean the dishes properly and leaves a cloudy film and smears on the inside of the machine and the dishes

    Common Problem
  1. Confirm the wash water is hot
    1. Try heated wash(sani wash) if available
    2. Run hot water in sink to warm up before starting
    3. At least 120 degree Fahrenheit water temperature
  2. Open door check wash arm position start washer for a minute
    1. Confirm wash arm has rotated
    2. Check for plugged spray tips at either end of wash arm.
    3. Use small tweezers to remove
    4. Check for rack and dishes interfering with arm rotation
  3. Place cup in upper rack with opening up cycle washer.
    1. Confirm that cup quickly fills with water
    2. Not washing check water level in tub mim 1 1/2 inch
  4. Discontinue use of rinse/dry liquid additive.
    1. Confirm rinse/dry additive not leaking from dispenser into tub
    2. Washer detergent contains sparkle additive and too much sparkle/rinses/dry additive will coat dishes
    3. Try alternative wash detergent that contains minimal rinse/dry additive and use without liquid rinse/dry additive.
  5. It will take several wash cycles after the elimination of rinse/dry to purge the oily film from dishes and machine..
  6. If success "joy" is achieved with no additives then cautiously add back wash detergent with additives. Additives are important to facilitate drying and protecting the glassware china from leaching. The leaching process permanently etches the surface of glassware leaving a cloudy appearance.

How can I just use the 'express wash' part of the 'express wash & dry' programme without it going onto the dryer part on my IWDC 1605 ?

Surely the machine programming must have a wash and spin "only", without dry program setting or selection? OR check through the programming where to deselect the drying process.

Kenomore ultra wash dishwasher will not clean dishes- water pump may be out? How do I perform self diagnostic test?

check and see if both wash arms are turning first.
does the lower arm turn but the top arm does not?
Another way to check to see if your upper wash arm is turning is to put a mug in the top rack upright. close the door and turn the dishwasher on if it fills the mug within 2 minutes you are getting proper curculation.
you press heated dry and high temp wash and toggle back and forth within 6-8 second. all the lights should light up and it will go into diagnostics.

Bosch Dishwaher shy56a

Bosch dishwashers have a seperate pump for washing and another for draining. Try making it fill more than once. There is usually a timed fill and the float stops it before it overfills It also might prevent it from washing without enouth water Try defeating the door switch and play with the float during fill. There may be a sensor that won't let it go into wash. Be prepared to get a little wet if it should start up suddenly. A slightly safer way is to fill it with the sprayer from the sink. and see if it will go into wash.
