SOURCE: Temperature setting

The fridge should be just above freezing, maybe 2 or 3 degrees celsius. The freezer should be around -15 degrees celsius. The outside temp doesn't matter as far as the settings go.

SOURCE: The coil is freezing up

When you say 'Freezing up'-- do you mean that it is freezing solid, so that no air can pass thru the coil?- Or just developing frost on it?
For as long as air is circulating over the frost-- you are still removing some water--

When yo say it is clean-- How old is it?-- How about the deeper inner parts of the coil-- how do you know they are clean?-- Have you blown them out with Compressed air?

However-- I do agree-- you will remove MORE water, if the coil does not freeze!
Owner's reviews of this dehimidifier have not been as soon as the oldr models-- So I sympathis with you!

Have you ever considered the 'Wave System' for dehumidifying basements and crawl spaces?-- Much less costly to operate!-- it uses much less energy, too! You can do the same with a small exhaust fan, and drawing air down from a conditioned space, 24 x 7.

Sincerely,

Mack B

Hello James;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

Good for you. You purchased a simple unit that does not have all of the buzzers and fancy controls that can go wrong.

The normal cycle of your unit is the temperature will rise to 20 degrees above set temperature and then shut down, until you reach 20 degrees below set temperature.

Your problem is you have a bad door seal. Your compressor is running trying to maintain the set temperature.

Ok, lets fix this problem:

1.) There are two screws in the bottom front of your refrigerator.
You want to turn these screws clockwise to raise the front of the refrigerator so it is pitched slightly back. This will assist in maintaining a good seal.
2.) Wet the door gaskets. With a hair dryer and a kitchen spatula, heat the door gaskets up pulling them out with the spatula trying to expand the crushed gasket.

If you have a bad gasket. It is easily replaced , a grooved slot. Pull out the old gasket and insert the new one.
Heat the new gasket in hot water for 30 minutes. Form and expand it with your hair dryer and spatula.

25605805-3lxxwax0f0xbqftwrz0flikt-2-0.jpg 2.) Lets finish the job: After time the door gaskets become crushed and do not maintain a good seal, so you have to recondition them. Inspect the door gasket, are there cracks and worn sections? With a hair dryer and spatula, heat the gasket while using the spatula to expand

We have a Kenmore 16, model model 253.8283680, that recently continuously cycles on and off. What could be the problem associated with this?

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The normal cycle is: Your compressor will turn on to raise the freezer temperature 20 degrees F. above the set temperature, and then the compressor will shut off, Until the freezer temperature drops 20 degrees F. below the set temperature and again the compressor will turn on.

One of the main problems with this type of freezer is the door gasket becomes crushed over time or the door is so thin it becomes deformed.

Do not try to replace the door gasket. You have to soak the new gasket in hot water for 1/2 hour and then form it on the door.

If you notice a gap in the corner of the door - pull hard on it to get it flush.

Recondition the door gasket - With a hair dryer and a kitchen spatula, heat the gasket and try to expand the gasket by pulling out with the spatula.

You can purchase a special freezer lubricant. Be sure not to over do it. It can make the door hard to open. P/N 542638

Broiler element will not turn off at required oven temperature

Hello;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You did not provide the model number of your oven, which is located on a metal plate on the upper face of your oven after you open the door.

First, unless you have the latest Accurate model, your oven temp will rise 20-40 degrees F. above the set temperature, then turn off until it reaches 20-40 degrees below the set temperature.

Chances are you have a bad infinite switch and not a bad oven thermostat.

That is all I can tell you until you give me a model number.

Aficionado hvt18dfbb is running but NO TEMP CHANGE

There is no compressor on these units. These units use a Peltier cold/hot module where the cold side faces the heat sink and the fan exhausts the heat side. Another fan sends the cool side into the frig. I have the same unit, I am experiencing the same issue. I was looking to change out the Peltier modules (about $7 each) and try that. I did find a replacement Control Board is about $45 and if the Peltier change doesn't work this may be my next step.

Electric water heaters never power BOTH the upper and lower elements at the same time.

If the water in the tank is cold, either the top OR bottom element will be powered through the upper thermostat (t-stat), never both at the same time. The upper t-stat will send power to the upper element until the temperature of the water in the top of the tank reaches the set point of the t-stat say 140 degrees. When the water temperature in the top of the tank reaches 140 degrees, the t-stat is "satisfied" and disconnects the power from the top element and sends it to the lower t-stat.

IF the temperature of the water in the lower half of the tank is lower than the set point of the lower t-stat, the t-stat closes to send power to the lower element. The lower element REMAINS powered by the t-stat until EITHER the water in the lower part of the tank reaches the set point temperature of the lower t-stat again, say 140 degrees; OR the temperature of the water in the upper part of the tank drops, at which point the upper t-stat "calls" and switches the power away from the lower t-stat and sends it to the upper heating element instead. When the top t-stat is satisfied, it switches power back to the lower t-stat. The process will continue back and forth for as long as needed to bring the temperature of the water in both halves of the tank to 140 degrees.

You must wait until the top of the tank is heated - before the lower element will be powered to heat the water.

I hope this helps you understand how the switching happens in these water heaters. Good luck! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

    I need an owner manuel for Caloric Range Model # EST 345 I can'g figure out how to run the self cleaning oven cycle.

    you might try the following, although it is the instructions for an old model, it may be relevant;

    "The actual self-cleaning process is initiated by a simple 5 step procedure: 1. Set the range clock to time of day. Note: on models not equipped with an automatic oven timer, the self-cleaning cycle is preprogrammed for a 21/2 hour cycle. Use Steps 3, 4 and 5 only. 2.Establish the length of cleaning time by:
    A. Setting the start time. Press and turn the start dial of the automatic oven timer clockwise to the desired starting time. B. Set the stop time. Press and turn the stop dial of the automatic oven timer clockwise to the desired stop time. Max time is 3 hours miniumum 1/12 hours. 3. Set the oven selector dial on the control panel to "Clean" 4. Set the temperature control dial to "off". If you temperature control dial has a "Clean" position, then set the dial to "Clean" instead of "Off". 5. Remove oven racks, broiler pan and broiler grid from lower oven. Close and lock the oven door by moving the latch lever as far right as it will go - into the locked position. If the lever is accidently dislodged restore it to the locked position. Otherwise, the self-cleaning process will not take place. Shortly after the cleaning cycle has begun, the oven temperatur reaches a degree in excess of the normal broiling temperature. The red "Clean" light will come on and the clean cycle will start. In a few minutes the door lock lever, which you have placed in the locked position, will automatically be secured to prevent the oven door from beging opened during the cleaning cycle. This latch remains locked until the clean cycle is complete and the oven temperature reduces to normal baking and broiling temperaturs. NOTE: Prior to self cleaning cycle operation, the oven and surface lights must be turned offed. The upper oven can be used."

    It takes my electric over a long time I think to

    That is a long time, but please give more information on what type of oven you have, and how old it is if the following does not solve your problem. First, Make sure you have not covered the bottom of the oven with any type of barrier to keep the oven clean (aluminum foil or inserts), it blocks the vents. If it is an older convection oven, preheat on bake and set the convection after it has preheated. Check the elements. Lift up the bottom panel and do a visual check of the element. Take out the bottom panel and turn the on oven on somewhere near 450-500 degrees. Visually inspect the element and see if there are bright red areas and dull areas. If the element has red hot areas and dark areas, you need a new element. If the element does not get red at all, you need a new element. Electric ovens usually have an upper and lower element, so you should check both before replacing one. The broiler element should be visible without removing anything, just look at the top of the oven after you set to broil. Lastly, make sure the oven door shuts snugly and that any gasket around the door is in good condition. If you don't know if the door is tight enough, just lean up against it to see if it preheats more quickly. The oven also has a temperature sensor, but from your description, that would not be the case because you did not mention trouble maintaining the temperature.The good news is that elements are usually cheap and easy to replace. Try to find your owners manual, it will tell you what part you need. If not, write down as much info on your oven that you can and take the element with you to the parts store. If this is not helpful, leave comments with more information and I will attempt to solve your problem. thank you for your question.
